Upgrades boost the value of certain numeric stats on armor, weapons and rings. They also boost extra bonuses, such as PvE damage and crit chance.

For instance a weapon that has the upgrade template ending in % will take on 3% attack damage every time it upgrades (relative to its previous value).

Item upgrading costs crests and the current level of the item. The cost increases as the item's level rises.

Components

Upgrade components can be added to trinkets, weapons and armor in order to give them a stat boost or add a bonus effect. They can be acquired through crafting, purchasing from vendors, trading or looting. Certain upgrades also come with special cosmetic effects.

These upgrades can be obtained by purchasing them in the cash shop or by obtaining them from enemies when upgrading other gear.

Each upgrade increases the likelihood that a higher-tier version of an item will be revealed at the next reset. This gives the player an incentive to continue upgrading their gear even if they're uncertain of how much it will improve after a future reset.

The process of upgrading an item could be costly and it is likely that the item will be obsolete or even break in the event that the upgrade is unsuccessful. Upgrade Crystals and assist powder are also destroyed when the upgrade fails. Cash shop items can be used to reduce or eliminate the risk of failure. Glyphs

Glyphs can be used to upgrade the Paragon Board by placing them in sockets with special functions. Each Glyph will grant a distinct bonus that can boost the stats of a particular set of nodes in the vicinity of the Glyph. Based on the Glyph it could be +40 to one of your primary stats or +25 to two of your secondary stats.

Glyphs boost all nodes connected to them, so it is recommended to place Glyphs in strategic spots on the Graph. This will maximize the impact. Druids for instance should position their Glyphs close to their primary damage nodes. They might also want to consider placing them near their most critical damage nodes.

Leveling

The system of upgrading items lets players increase the performance of certain items by placing upgraded components inside them. This is commonly known as "upping".
