Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of the item by +3. A random extra substat is also added to every upgrade.

Crests

When it comes to upgrading equipment in WoW players have a variety of options. Flightstones are a currency that is available to everyone who wants to upgrade. Crests are more special and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are a key element of the Dragonflight gear progression system that was introduced in 10.1, and come in 4 ranks.

The first thing to be aware of is that crests can only be used to purchase gear of a specific rank, and each rank has its own requirements for upgrading. The most basic and straightforward upgrade path costs 15 crests, while the more complex one may require as many as 20 crests depending on the type of equipment that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through finishing content at the appropriate level, which involves walking around and performing outdoor activities to get lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons of all difficulties for higher-tier items or Mythic+ dungeons or heroic raid bosses for endgame gear. Crests can be exchanged at an upgrader NPC, like Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to obtain the appropriate upgrade pathways and steps.

The use of these currencies isn't that difficult however, the system introduces some modifications to the upgrade process. For example, once a piece of equipment reaches the highest upgrade level of any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it won't require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is intended to allow players to upgrade their equipment to the highest level possible for all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another important change is that crests only have one purpose and it's crucial to use them properly. For instance, it's Best item upgrader to utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests with the best equipment available and keep Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you plan on making. This is especially applicable to items like trinkets and rings that take up several slots. The discount for the entire account is only applicable when all slots on the character are filled with high-quality equipment.
