Upgrades will give you a boost to specific stats. Each upgrade increases item level by 3. A random additional substat is also added to every upgrade.

The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless it has a low requirement by nature (like FB sorc shields) or a high stat variance (like Eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are less important for the latter because of the requirement to roll a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade gear to a higher item level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be made on any type of armor or weapons. The item used to upgrade the item is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be used to create Enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in every major city, and can be visited at any time to upgrade item your equipment. To keep your gear up-to-date it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each couple of weeks.

Upgrades will cost more depending on the item level, however they'll always be cheaper than buying new gear. For example upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 levels will cost 20 recycle points, purchasing a similar piece from a different player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used for weapons, armor, tools, and accessory upgrades. They can be bought by players from NPCs who sell upgrades for items in exchange for different currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor. The button will show the preview of an item's next level of upgrade, in the event that there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrading is based on the slot of the item level upgrade and the current Best item upgrader level as well as the level of the weapon, which is more than gloves or bracers, for instance. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Some upgrades give a discount on the Flightstones. Once an item is upgraded to a certain amount, it can be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.

A lot of locations offer upgraders for items which include the main island and some outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade coupon and the chance to obtain the latest recipe. The upgrade discount increases when more items are upgraded. It can be increased if players complete certain achievements or quests.

The use of these currencies isn't too complicated, but the system does introduce some changes to the overall upgrade process. For instance, when a piece of equipment reaches the highest upgrade level of any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is designed to allow players to upgrade their equipment up to the highest level possible on all their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another important modification is that crests have one use, so it's important to make use of them in a responsible manner. It is recommended to use your Whelpling-rank crests on the highest-quality gear you can locate, and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next set of upgrades. This is particularly true for items such as trinkets and rings that take up multiple slots. The discount on the account will only apply when all the slots on the character are filled with top-quality equipment.
