Upgrades give you boosts in certain statistics. Each upgrade boosts the item upgrades level by +3. Each upgrade also boosts the random substatus.

The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless it has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or a high stat variance (like Eth Titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the necessity to roll for a perfect model.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. However, the item level upgrade (browse around here) that is used to upgrade will be consumed forever and can't be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create enhancements.

The upgrader can be found in all major cities and is accessible at any time to upgrade your gear. To ensure that your equipment is up-to-date it is recommended you visit the upgrader every several weeks.

Item upgraders can be found at many locations on the main island as well as some outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade coupon and a possibility of obtaining an entirely new recipe. The upgrade discount increases according to the number of items that are being upgraded, and can be increased by requiring players to complete specific achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the start, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. Instead, the NPCs that can be used to upgrade are acquired via several methods that are both an improvement and a drawback.

Crests

Another significant change is that crests have one usage, so it's important to use them properly. For instance, it's a good idea utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests on the top equipment you have, and then save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next batch of upgrades you're planning to make. This is particularly true for items such as trinkets and rings that take up several slots. The discount for the entire account is only applicable when all the slots on the character are filled with high-quality equipment.
