The performance of many Path of Exile items can be enhanced by upgrading them. They can be a fantastic source of extra damage or more AD or even more attachments.

In most cases, however, upgraded Common and Magic gear is beaten out by Rare-grade equipment due to their high requirements.

Armor

Armor upgrades can be applied to both armor and weapon items. They improve the stats of the item that they are connected to. Armor upgrades can be found in the world of the game and can be purchased from Blacksmiths at any bonfire. Alternately, they can be salvaged from items that have upgrade components in them using an expert or greater salvage kit.

The amount of damage that an armored piece or weapon will absorb is contingent on the degree of upgrades. The ability to absorb damage of a piece armor will increase as it is upgraded to the maximum upgrade level. It is important to keep in mind that this will increase the weight of the armor, so it should be heavier.

There are a few different kinds of armor upgrades that are available in the game, and they all have different effects. For instance, some upgrades will grant the armor a certain number of additional health points, while others make it lighter and stronger. The type of armor upgrade that an item upgrade upgrader kit (Going Here) can receive is indicated by the name of the upgrade, as indicated in the table below.

Certain upgrades require magic or a combination of technology and magic, which are indicated by the "Magic" and "Hybrids" entries in the table. Some upgrades also require charges to use. These are identified as "Charges" entries in the table. These charges are either continuously updated or never expire, depending on the upgrade.

The cheapest method of upgrading armor is with Iron Ore, which can be obtained by exploring the area and looting chests of minor loot. Titanium is more expensive but is readily available at the smelters of Orgrimmar and Stormwind City. Some upgrades, like the Reforge or the Hot Potato Books can only be applied on high-level armor pieces. These upgrades can provide a significant improvement in stats and are worth the investment, especially for 1-handed weapons.

A piece of armor upgraded to the highest upgrade level will dramatically increase its defense values but the wearer must be aware that putting more weight on it will dramatically reduce its speed and agility. It is not recommended to upgrade armor past +9. The defensive boost gained typically isn't worth the weight and power expenses of the upgrades.

Weapons

Weapon upgrades allow players to improve the effectiveness of specific aspects of a weapon. For example an upgrade could improve the damage that is caused by a shotgun's shells or the accuracy of a rifle sniper. Certain weapons come with special upgrades to improve their inherent capabilities. They include Frictionless Materials (improves stability and reduces the risk of overheating of the weapon) and Kinetic Coils (increases the speed of projectiles to cause more damage).

The majority of upgrades for weapons require a whetblade. It's one of three Power Dices and a different amount Minerals and Erons. These can be obtained by finishing side quests, killing a certain number of bosses or monsters, or from the Weapon Upgrade NPC in Central Flarine.

To upgrade an equipment set, weapon piece or Whetblade you need to visit the NPC [ArmorBoboko. Boboko located in Central Flarine, and pay her an upgrade fee of a certain number of Bars. The higher the upgrade level, the higher the number of bars required to complete it. If you have multiple upgrade materials, the cost of upgrading will be less.

In Chapter 2: Season 5, the way you upgrade your equipment and weapon sets changed a little. In the past you could search for an Upgrade Bench and pay a set number of Bars to upgrade your equipment or weapon to an increased quality. You could do this until your weapon or equipment reached its maximum upgrade level and at that point, the upgrades would reset.

In addition to these players, they should think about upgrading the weapons that are most popular with their teammates to make them more powerful as well. For instance, Shepard should consider upgrading the M92F to unlock the Beretta M93R, which will make it more useful when accompanied by experts in biotics like Grunt and Tali.

Jewels

Jewels are utilized in the sockets of armor and weapons, increasing a stat and providing secondary effects. Jewelry crafting is a method of making them, where you combine a gemstone with a number specific reagents in a jewelry table. The higher the tier of the gemstone is, the greater its secondary effect. These reagents can be found around the world from Treasure Goblins, World Bosses and occasionally by salvaging Legendary equipment. You can also buy them from The Jeweler for gold and a Scattered Prism.

The Jeweler can improve the quality of a gem in stages ranging from Crude up to Royal. The stat boosts can vary depending on the tier the jewel is in when it's inserted into jewelry, weapons or gear.

All kinds of jewels can be made at the Jeweler and Jeweler's Workshop, with the exception of the rare and legendary jewels which require you to be at a certain level to be able to get the privilege of having them. Jewels can be replaced with another jewel without destroying the original. However you can only swap out a jewel in an equipment piece once.

Utilizing more jewels in a move will make it more smooth and is typically performed to enhance the aesthetics of the movement. The jewels can also enhance performance and create a surface harder than steel so that repeated friction caused by pivots does not cause damage to the movement.

A Glyphmaster can offer glyphs to improve the look of your shields and weapons. These glyphs provide a small boost and can be freely traded, but they're not guaranteed to show up as loot. Trinkets

Trinkets are small pieces of equipment that bestow many small, but beneficial benefits to your hero. They can be obtained in the areas of starting as loot, personal story rewards, from vendors, and by doing road interactions. They can be purchased from the Trading Post, or crafted by jewelers.

The first trinket that a player will be able to unlock is the cloak. It provides a tiny, but useful bonus in speed of movement and the ability to evade. After that, they can acquire rings, amulets, and necklaces in the same manner to the way a player can acquire armor and weapons. Each piece of equipment comes with an upgrade slot which can be universal or jewel. Universal upgrades are smaller and can be utilized on any equipment. Jewels are not upgradeable or replaced and only work with certain trinkets.

These trinkets grant additional buffs and abilities that are active even when the hero isn't fighting. This lets the hero be more effective when not active and also helps fill in the void of a strong team or any slots in the talent tree which would normally be filled with hero's ideal stats.

A good general rule of thumb for trinket upgrades is to prioritize BiS (Best-in-Slot) items that you won't be replacing soon, followed by items with desirable stats that are less important than the iLevel of the item upgrader kit being upgraded. This is especially true when an item upgrading has multiple stats you wish to upgrade, as it's often better to upgrade just one crucial stat than two subpar ones.

In the beginning of the game players in the jungle are likely to upgrade their trinket into a red one, while top and mid players usually choose a green or pink ward (depending on the game's matchup). These choices will have an impact on the hero's ability to manage the map.

In addition to the items mentioned above, players will discover other trinkets in form of trophies and rewards throughout the game. These can be earned through completing certain milestones in the story, such as completing a chapter's main quest or killing a particular boss. These achievements can be seen by selecting the relevant achievement in the reward tab of the hero menu.
