Upgrades boost the value of certain numeric stats on armor, weapons and rings. They also boost extra bonuses such as damage from PvE and crit chance.

For instance an item with the upgrade template ending in % will take on an attack damage of 3% each time it is upgraded (relative to its previous value).

Item upgrading costs crests and the item's current level. The cost rises with item upgrade's level.

Components

Upgrade components can be added to trinkets, weapons and armor in order to provide them with a boost in stats or to add an additional effect. They can be obtained by crafting, purchasing from vendors, trading or looting. Some upgrades can also be accompanied by specific cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can only be used on devices that have slots. The item must be at least upgraded to blue before the component can be used. Upgrade components, unlike other mods can only be applied only once. They cannot be replaced or applied multiple times. Infusions and Enrichments are a kind of upgrade component used to upgrade non-amulet legendary or ascended equipment, as well in some items that aren't ascended. Infusions and enrichments are recovered by salvaging ascended gear or completing an elite mission in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.

An upgrade could have a prefix or suffix that alters the name of the equipment to the upgrade (for examplefor example "Canthan Armor Insignia' becomes Canthan Armor of Minor Vigor). Some upgrades increase the Mark Level or Rarity of an item, allowing players to create stronger versions using less upgrade crystals than they need to reach the same level using normal methods.

A 'boost' upgrade can change the attack or defense attributes of a weapon, or armor. Once the player has completed the cutscene and defeated the Crazed Mechanist, these upgrades can be crafted at the Portative Forging Station. These upgrades are available for purchase them in the cash shop or getting them from enemies while upgrading other equipment.

The player can get up to five boost upgrades at a time; each upgrade increases the likelihood that a higher-level version of the item will be available in the next reset. This gives players an incentive to upgrade their gear even when they're not sure what can be improved upon the reset.

The process of upgrading an item could be costly and it's possible that the item will eventually become obsolete or even break in the event that the upgrade fails. Upgrade Crystals and assist powder are also destroyed if the upgrade fails. This is reduced by the availability of cash shop items that can double or even eliminate the chance of failure, and some upgrades that offer the benefit of being reinserted into an item.

Glyphs

Glyphs are upgrade elements which can be put in special sockets on the Paragon Board. Glyphs increase the effectiveness of all nodes in the area around them, including pre-existing affixes on equipment. Glyphs are upgraded in various ways, and we recommend upgrading them to 15 levels whenever you can.

You will often find in the endgame that placing Glyphs is a great way to upgrade your gear. These are the only upgrade components that can be upgraded to level 15 and provide significant boosts to your power on the Paragon Board.

The majority of upgrades in the game can be replaced, however, Glyphs are only the one upgrade component that can be removed and put back in place without restriction. The only exception is legendary equipment, which requires the use of a Black Lion Salvage Kit to salvage and re-place.

The value of each Glyph is displayed when you select it in your inventory. You can replace it with a Glyph that is the same or higher rank to boost the value of the Glyph.

Glyphs are available in the Black Lion Trading Post as part of the Gem Store bundle or purchase them with certain tools that are unlimited in use and also during Faction Crypt Raids. Every Faction Crypt has a chance to drop one of the numerous Glyphs, and there are also a few rare Glyphs that can be found in the form of drops from any of the four Faction Crypts.

After you have acquired the desired Glyphs you'll need them to be placed on your gear. Each Glyph unlocks a unique bonus that can boost the stats of a particular set of nodes that are within a radius of the Glyph. Depending on the Glyph, this will either be +40 to one of your primary stats, or +25 to two of your secondary stats.

Glyphs will boost all nodes connected to them, so it is best to place Glyphs in key spots on the Graph. This will maximize the impact. Druids, for example, should place their Glyphs close to their primary damage nodes. They may also want to consider placing them near their critical damage nodes.

Leveling

The item upgrading system allows players to improve the stats of specific items by putting upgraded components in them. This is often referred to as "upping". Each upgradeable item comes with an amount that determines its upgraded stats. Upgraded items can be upgraded up to a maximum of 385. Each level of item requires different components, and upgrade costs increase with each level.

Some upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient can be obtained by finishing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be found in the upgrade tab of a crafting table or bought from NPCs. Each Upgrade Recipe that is completed yields a certain number of Technology points. These points can be used for leveling up an item. Once enough points are earned you will be able to claim the upgrade and receive its additional bonuses.

When a player upgrades the equipment they have it will be replaced by a new item. The same armor can be transformed into a weapon or a shield when upgraded. The new item also has its own bonus. This can be a downside, as the item can increase in price even if you don't need it.

If the player has enough tokens, they can roll the upgrade of their item. This causes the item to be exchanged for a new one, which will come with an initial level and a totally different set of bonus bonuses. This can be useful however it shouldn't be done often as it can waste resources.

Certain upgrades can be rerolled multiple times which increases their value and giving players the ability to alter their equipment. Dolphin's Gift is a good example, since it grants a buff if the player continuously enters or exits water. The item can be upgraded several times by increasing the maximum roll every time by 10 increments. This item is highly useful in PvP. A well-rolled version could be worth as much as 50x the value of the non-upgraded version.

Requirements

Item upgrading allows players to upgrade the quality of their equippable equipment - weapons, armor, and trinkets above ilvl 385--by offering the appropriate items and currency to an NPC that upgrades items. Upgrading armor set pieces will also increase the defense base of the piece, whereas upgrading weapon equipment will increase the base damage and required strength and dexterity to match the requirements of the upgraded equipment.

Each item can be upgraded a maximum of five times, except for hero gear, which can be upgraded up to eight times. Each when you upgrade an item, it has a chance to fail--the failure rate increases the more you exceed the maximum number of upgrades. Failures can cause the item to return to its original condition and the player having to purchase more items than if they stopped upgrading after the maximum amount.

If an item upgrade is not able to upgrade, the amount of accumulated experience in its growth bar is reset to zero. The item also loses any bonuses it gained like crit chance damage to attack, additional effects (such as an increase in healing over time, or the speed of reloading). However, the player may continue to use the weapon or armor after the failure.

When an item is upgraded the upgrades are applied from lowest to highest. This means that if a weapon receives a crit chance boost, the increase will be applied before any attack damage increases. A new attribute known as Slots is now added to the item's definition and the value is recomputed every time an upgrade is made.

The amount of resources needed to upgrade an item is dependent on its rarity score and the number of upgrade slots. The cost for upgrading non-premium items is equal to the base value of the upgrade--for instance, a standard equipment item could have five upgrades with a cost of 25600 Technology Points 4x Quality Improvement Opportunity. Hero quality items have a lower cost per upgrade.

Premium items have different upgrade requirements as compared to standard equipment, for instance, they might require fewer sowels, but more minerals and erons. The player will still need to bring every piece of gear they want to upgrade to the NPC [Armor] Boboko located in Central Flarine. In addition to the upgrade cost mentioned above, each equipment upgrade requires the use of different ingredients for upgrading.
