The diagnosis of adult ADHD is proving to be difficult. Despite the development of machine learning technology and other diagnostic tools, diagnostic tools for ADHD remain mostly subjective. This can lead to delays in initiation of treatment. To increase the efficacy and repeatability of the process, researchers have tried to develop a computerized ADHD diagnostic tool, called QbTest. It is an amalgamation of an electronic CPT and an infrared camera which measures motor activity.

An automated diagnostic system could help reduce the time required to identify adult ADHD. Patients would also benefit from early detection.

Numerous studies have looked into the use of ML to detect ADHD. The majority of these studies have relied on MRI data. Others have looked at the use of eye movements. These methods have numerous advantages, including the accuracy and accessibility of EEG signals. These measures are not sensitive or specific enough.

Researchers from Aalto University studied the eye movements of children playing a virtual reality game. This was done to determine if a ML algorithm could differentiate between ADHD and normal children. The results showed that machine learning algorithms can be used to recognize ADHD children.

Another study examined machine learning algorithms' efficiency. The results showed that a random-forest technique gives a higher percentage of robustness and higher rates of error in risk prediction. A permutation test also showed greater accuracy than labels assigned randomly.
