Upgrades will cost more depending on the level of the item however, they are always less expensive than purchasing new equipment. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest up to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. A similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are useful items which can be used to upgrade weapons and tools, armor and other accessories. They can be purchased by players from NPCs who sell upgrades for items in exchange for a variety of currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be applied to any tool, weapon, or armor. The button will display the item's next upgrade level, if there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrading varies based on the slot of the item upgrader mod and the current item level. For instance weapons cost more than gloves, bracers or bracers. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a certain number of crests. Certain upgrades provide discounts on Flightstones. Once an item level upgrade is upgraded to a certain level it is able to be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.

A lot of locations offer upgraders for items which include the main island and some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade discount and a chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. This allows players to upgrade their equipment to the highest possible ilvl for all their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also crucial to choose crests in a wise manner, as they have only one purpose. For instance it's a good idea to use all of your Whelpling-rank crests on the top equipment you have and then save Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you plan to create. This is particularly relevant for trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character, which can only be eligible to avail the account-wide discount when all slots are full of high-quality gear.
