Item upgrades are a way to boost the stats of an item. Depending on the type of upgrade you choose, it can boost an item's Rarity or Mark Level and boost additional stats.

Upgrades to gear in The War Within requires a certain number of Flightstones and Crests, and each item comes with an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the following one by a specific amount.

Item Level

When an item gets upgraded, its basic stats increase in value. This value is the total of all the upgraded benefits (attack, magic attack and defense). It can also be used as a gating requirement while waiting for dungeons, raids and scenarios. It also serves to limit how much PvP gear players can use since PvP is not available at a lower level. The average level of an item can be found in the character sheet.

The level of an item will allow players to compare the power of equipment when choosing to buy or sell. It's an excellent indicator of an item's quality and how much damage it's capable of dealing with. Comparing items from the inventory of a seller can be done using the item level.

The item level can be viewed by pressing the ALT key on a PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. The Best item upgrader will be displayed with its full description, including the ilvl. You can also locate it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel in chat.

There are a few theories about how the calculation of the item's level is carried out. One theory is that the level is a numerical value derived from a formula which calculates the value of an item's stats are worth. It takes into consideration that different benefits are valued differently and that gems found in sockets increase the item's value. This can result in a calculated item's ilvl that is usually very close to Blizzard's real level of the item.

Item Stats

The upgrades to items add by increasing certain stats of the Best item upgrade. The upgrade costs are determined by the rarity of the item. For example, a grey or white item will only be upgraded once, while items with rare levels will be upgraded multiple times, at higher costs.

Affixes are a different method to alter the stats of an item. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player, and are available in all shapes and sizes. The affixes can do things like give the item extra damage, add a special ability to the item (such as reviving the dead or reducing the cooldowns), or make the item unique by adding a special name to the item.

All affixes are re-rolled at the moment by selecting them in the upgrade window, and pressing the green button. This will cost a specific amount in gold and other items. These can be used as upgrade gauges similar to other rerolling methods.

In addition to rerolling affixes, players can select which stats they want to keep on an item when it is upgraded. The possible stat ranges for an item are based on the item level, but all items are guaranteed to have at minimum one stat within the specified range, unless it's a unique item or an item that is a God roll from a boss of a raid.

This is another aspect that can be modified by introducing an option to upgrade the equipment without having to reroll the affixes, or selecting which stats to boost. As with the base equipment, it would have to be done per item, and the item comparison interface would not display all the possible stats simultaneously.

Item Luck

A player's Luck stat stacks up to increase the chances of item discoveries, the properties spawned on loot drops, and the intensity of the properties. However, it does not, directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives the player the chance to upgrade their equipment earlier in the game. This is particularly beneficial in early game runs since players tend to prioritize weapon scaling and defenses above raw damage gains.

Luck can also boost the chances of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade probability that increases with each level of the item and can be further enhanced by using an anti-material, such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

The shields, armor, and weapons have a default Luck value of 40. These items can be upgraded with golden ingots, spined leather or oak boards (depending on the type of material used) to grant a further +40 Luck or to boost the luck of the item up to 140.

Furthermore some items, such as the Hollow infused weapon, can be equipped to increase the damage of any damage-dealing skill by 5%. These items can be purchased in the shop or crafted using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Upgrades to items are a costly process and not all upgrades will succeed. However, there are cash shop items that allow players to increase their chance of success or stop them from losing an item if the upgrade fails.

The success rate of an upgrade is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage is the probability of successfully upgrading the item. This can be increased by using Additional Materials or Special materials. The chance of success can only be increased by so high, and the probability that an upgrade will fail cannot exceed 100%..

The performance of an can be affected by the luck of that item upgrading. Each item has a base success rate of 25% and each item with Luck increases that chance by five percent.

The upgrade overlays for items are rendered above the items in the inventory. This could cause obscurity to enchantment effects or other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
