Trials that have a high pragmatism score tend to have broader eligibility criteria than traditional RCTs which have very specific criteria that are unlikely to be used in the clinical environment, and they contain patients from a broad variety of hospitals. The authors suggest that these characteristics can help make pragmatic trials more meaningful and relevant to daily practice, but they do not guarantee that a trial using a pragmatic approach is completely free of bias. Furthermore, the pragmatism of a trial is not a fixed attribute and a pragmatic trial that does not contain all the characteristics of a explanatory trial can produce valuable and reliable results.
