In Diablo 4, a player can roll a new upgrade to an item. This is accomplished through the Level Up mechanic, which stops the game and shows the list of four randomly selected upgrades. Another option is to write a script that checks the upgrade requirements of an item before allowing it to be upgraded. This method is ideal for systems with an extremely small number of items that can be upgraded and have simple upgrade dependencies. A good example is a sword that can be upgraded from Sword +1 to Sword +2. A script could check for the item level upgrade Definition attribute for each upgrade, and set the Item Status to "upgraded" in order to indicate that the upgrade was valid.
