Upgrades boost the value of certain numeric stats on armor, weapons and rings. Upgrades also increase bonuses such as Crit chance and damage from PvE.

If the weapon's upgrade template is in %, the weapon will gain an additional 3% of the previous attack damage every time it's upgraded.

Item upgrading costs crests and the current level of the item. The cost rises with item's level.

Components

Upgrade components can be incorporated into trinkets, armor, and weapons in order to give them a boost in stats or an extra effect. They can be obtained through crafting, purchasing from vendors, trading with other players, or looting. Certain upgrades also come with specific cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can be inserted into any equipment that has a slot for them. The item must be at least upgraded to the blue level for a component to be used. Unlike other mods, upgrade components can only be used one time; they cannot be applied multiple times or replaced by new upgrades. Infusions and Enrichments are kind of upgrade component that is used to upgrade non-amulet legendary and ascended equipment, as well as some non-ascended items. Infusions and enrichments can be recovered by salvaging gear from the ascended, or completing an elite task in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.

An upgrade may be prefixed or a suffix changing the name of the item to which it is used (for instancethe "Canthan Armor Insignia' becomes Canthan Armor of Minor Vigor). Certain upgrades can increase the Mark Level or Rarity of an item, which lets players to create stronger versions using fewer Upgrade crystals than they would require to achieve the same level using standard methods.

A boost upgrade is a way to alter the defense or attack attributes of a weapon or armor. After the player has completed the cutscene and defeated the Crazed Mechanist, these upgrades can be made at the Portative Forging Station. These upgrades can be purchased by purchasing them in the cash shop or by obtaining them from enemies when upgrading other equipment.

The player can have up to five boost upgrades at a time; each upgrade increases the chance that a better-quality version of the item will appear in the next reset. The process of upgrading an item can be expensive, and it is possible that the item will be obsolete, or even break, when the upgrade is unsuccessful. This is reduced by the availability of cash shop items that can double or even eliminate the chances of failure, as well as some upgrades that offer the benefit of being reinserted into an item.

Glyphs

Glyphs are upgrade components which can be put in special sockets on the Paragon Board. Glyphs buff the power of all nodes within the area around them and include pre-existing affixes to equipment. Glyphs can be upgraded in numerous ways. We recommend upgrading them as quickly as you can to level 15.

In the endgame you'll find that the best way to improve your equipment is to use Glyphs. They are the only upgrade component that can be upgraded to level 15 and give a significant boost to your power on the Paragon Board.

Glyphs, which is the only upgrade component that can be removed without restriction and replaced with no restrictions are the most popular. The only exception is legendary equipment, which requires a Black Lion Salvage Kit to salvage and replace.

Each Glyph has a particular range of values that it can improve a statistic by, and the value is shown when you select the Glyph in your inventory. You can replace it with another Glyph that is of the same or higher rank to increase the value of the Glyph.

Glyphs are available in the Black Lion Trading Post as part of the Gem Store bundle or purchase the glyphs with certain tools that allow unlimited use, and during Faction Crypt Raids. Each Faction Crypt has a chance to drop one of the various Glyphs and there are also a few rare Glyphs that can be obtained as drops from any of the four Faction Crypts.

Once you have obtained the desired Glyphs you will need them to be placed on your equipment. Each Glyph unlocks a special bonus which will boost the stats of a specific set of nodes that are within the radius of the Glyph. Depending on the Glyph, this will either be +40 to one of your primary stats or +25 to two of your secondary stats.

Glyphs boost all nodes that are connected to them, so it is recommended to place Glyphs in the most important spots on the Graph. This will increase the impact. Druids for instance should position their Glyphs close to their primary damage nodes. They might be able to place them near their critical damage nodes.

Leveling

The system of upgrading items lets players increase the performance of certain items by placing upgraded components in them. This is known as "upping". Every upgradeable item has an amount that determines its final upgraded stats. Upgraded items may be leveled up to a maximum of 385. Each level of an item upgrader mod requires various components, and upgrade costs increase with each level.

Some upgrades require a special ingredient to activate. This ingredient can be obtained by completing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be bought from NPCs, or on the upgrade tab in the crafting table. Each Upgrade Recipe that is completed earns a number of Technology Points. These points can be used to upgrade the item, and once enough are earned, the upgrade will be claimed and the additional bonuses will be added to the item.

When an item level upgrade is upgraded by a player, the base item is replaced with a different item of the same type. This means that the same armor piece will get a weapon or shield when upgraded. The new item comes with its own set of bonuses. This could be a drawback since the item may be more expensive even if you do not need it.

If the player has enough tokens they can roll item upgrades. The item will be replaced by a brand new one that has a base of level 1 and totally different bonuses. This is a good option for some items, but it's not something that should be performed frequently, since it could waste a lot of resources.

Certain upgrades can increase their value, allowing players to customize their gear. Dolphin's Gift is a good example, since it grants buffs when the player continuously enters or exits water. This item can be upgraded several times and increases the maximum roll every time by 10 increments. This item is very useful in PvP. A properly rolled version could be worth as much as 50x the value of the non-upgraded version.

Requirements

The upgrader for items allows players to raise the level of their equippable equipment (armor weapons, weapons, and trinkets) beyond ilvl385 by handing over the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades to armor set pieces boost the defense of the base set and upgrades to weapon items boost their base damage as well as the required strength and dexterity.

Each item can be upgraded up to five times, except for hero equipment, which can be upgraded eight times. Each time you upgrade an item it has the chance to fail. The failure rate increases the farther you go beyond the maximum number of upgrades. Failures can cause the item to return to its initial state which means that the player has to pay for more items than if they stopped upgrading after the maximum amount.

If an item is not able to upgrade, the amount of accumulated experience in its growth bar is reset to zero. In addition, the item will lose any gained bonuses, including crit chance and attack damage, as well as any other effects that are associated with that effect (for instance, an increase in heal over time or speed of reload). However, the player can continue to use the weapon or armor after the failure.

When an item is upgraded, the upgrades are applied from the lowest to the highest. This means that when a weapon is upgraded, if it receives a crit chance boost that it will be applied prior to any damage to attack increases.
