Study of Chinese Learners' Pedagogical Choices in Korean

This feature can help researchers understand the role of prosody in communication across different cultural contexts, a key issue in cross-cultural pragmatics.

In the field of linguistics, the DCT has become one of the most significant tools to analyze learners' behaviors in communication. It can be used to analyze numerous issues, like politeness, turn-taking, and the choices made in lexical use. It can also be used to determine the phonological difficulty of learners their speech.

Recent research used a DCT as a tool to assess the refusal skills of EFL students. The participants were given a list of scenarios and required to choose a suitable response from the options offered. The authors concluded that the DCT was more effective than other measures to stop people from refusing that included a questionnaire as well as video recordings. Participants were 46 CLKs of upper-intermediate ability who provided responses to DCTs and MQs. They were also asked to consider their evaluations and refusal performance in RIs. The results showed that CLKs frequently chose to resist native Korean pragmatism norms. Their decisions were influenced primarily by four factors: their personalities and multilingual identities, their ongoing life experiences, as well as their relational affordances. First, the MQ data were analysed to identify the participants' choices in terms of their pragmatics. The data was categorized according Ishihara (2010)'s definition of pragmatic resistance. Then, we compared their choices with their linguistic performance on DCTs to determine if they were indicative of pragmatic resistance. Additionally, the participants were asked to explain their choices of behavior in a specific situation.

They attributed their choices to learner-internal factors like their identities, personalities, multilingual identities, and ongoing life histories. They also discussed, for instance, how their relations with their professors enabled them to perform better in terms of the linguistic and social expectations of their university.
