20 Things You Should Know About Item Upgrade
WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader
Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by 3. A random extra substat is also increased with each upgrade.
Upgraded gear is generally more valuable, unless the item is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like the eth Titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the need to roll to get a perfect version.
Recycle Points
The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by offering the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of armor or weapon. The item upgrader mod used to upgrade the item is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be used to create the enchantments.
The upgrader is located in every major city, and can be accessed at any time to upgrade your equipment. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader at least once every few weeks, to ensure that your equipment is up to date.
Upgrades can cost more based on the level of the item however they'll always be less expensive than purchasing new gear. For instance upgrading a Benthic chest to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points, purchasing a similar piece from a different player will cost 105.
Valorstones
Upgrades are functional items that can be used to upgrade items weapons, tools, armor, and other accessories. They can be purchased by players from NPCs who sell upgrades for items in exchange for various currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade items can be applied to any tool, weapon or armor. The button will display the item's next level of upgrade, in the event that there are enough materials.
Upgrade costs differ based on the slot of the item and the current item level. For example, weapons will cost more than gloves, bracers or bracers. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Some upgrades offer discounts on Flightstones. Once an item is upgraded to a certain degree, it can be downgraded and sold to the upgrader for a lower price.
Many locations have upgraders for their items, including the main Island and a few outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade discount and the chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The discount for upgrades increases depending on the amount of items that are being upgraded. It is also possible to be increased by requiring players to complete specific achievements or quests.
Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at beginning, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. The NPCs who are able to facilitate upgrades are only available through a variety means. This is both a benefit and a drawback.
In Season 3, the upgrade system has been modified a bit, and numerous new features added. When a player has an upgrade to a particular item level upgrade item, read, level for a particular armor slot, upgrading additional items to that same item level will cost less, even when they are part of an entirely different set of gear.
The amount of Valorstones required for upgrades is decreased, and the discount is affixed to all accounts. In the same way, the amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is also reduced and is not available until players have reached certain milestones in their achievements.
Crests
When it comes to upgrading gear in WoW, players have a variety of options. Flightstones are an item that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specialized and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are a key element of the Dragonflight gear progression system, which was introduced in 10.1 and are available in four ranks.
The first thing to remember is that the crests can only be purchased for gear that is of a particular rank. Each rank comes with a different upgrade path. The most basic and straightforward upgrade items process costs just 15 crests while the most complicated may require as many as 20 crests depending on the type of equipment that is being upgraded.
Players can earn crests through working through content at the appropriate level. This could be done by doing outdoor activities, or by doing dungeons or raids in all difficulty levels to obtain lower-level gear or Mythic+ raid bosses or dungeons with a heroic difficulty to obtain endgame gear. Crests can be exchanged at an upgrader NPC like Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken, for the appropriate upgrade routes and steps.
The new currency system isn't difficult to use, however it will bring some changes to the process of upgrading. For example, once an item reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is designed to allow players to get their equipment to the highest ilvl possible for all their characters rather than relying solely on seasonal loot.
It's also crucial to choose crests wisely, as they have only one purpose. For instance, it's a good idea utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests on the top equipment available and save Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you plan to create. This is especially true for items such as rings and trinkets that occupy multiple slots. The account-wide discount will only be applicable if all the slots on the character are filled with high-quality equipment.
