11 Ways To Completely Revamp Your Double Pushchair
Which Lightweight Double Pushchair Should You Buy?
It's easy to move around with the lightweight double pushchair especially if you have children with different ages. They're generally easy to steer, fold and transport up and down stairs.
This City Mini GT2 offers side-by-side seats with plenty of legroom, adjustable reclining and massive UPF 50+ canopy with windows that peek out. It also has a frame that expands in the width to accommodate an additional car seat or a second passenger.
Side-by-Side
The majority of light double pushchairs that we test are side-byside models and are generally recommended for children who can sit up unassisted since these models aren't equipped with car seat integration. That said there are some exceptions. Thule Urban Glide 2 Double and Baby Trend Sit 'N Stand double stroller for twins are both top choices that have recline that can be adjusted in both seats, a large canopy and padded 5-point harnesses. They are also simple to move around despite their larger footprint. They are perfect for parents who worry about getting through doors.
The Cybex Duet is a little different due to its unique frame that expands widthways to add another seat, making it smaller than other pushchairs with side-by-side seating on the market. This means it can fit through standard doorways and is easy to maneuver on public transport. It's also a jogger, which is great if you want to use it with an infant carrier or car seat, and comes in a range of fun colors.
The UPPAbaby Vista v2 double is another fantastic side-by-side double buggy with car seat that is lightweight. It provides even more customization thanks to the modular frame. It has a smart design that lets you transform it into a single buggy or a double by adding two car seats or carrycots (it can even accommodate twins). It's an outstandingly practical choice for families with growing children, and the UPPAbaby also makes one of the lightest and stylish umbrella strollers available.
If you're looking for a more compact, lightweight double, consider the egg2 which folds to the size of a tiny suitcase. It can be used as a single or double with the addition of 2 carrycots or infant car seats, and our home testers were awed by how sleek and simple it was to use even when stuffed with children.
Although they're lightweight double twin pushchairs that sit side-by-side are not foolproof. If your children are of the same age and stage, they may be fighting over who gets to sit in which spot. And if they're different heights, a tandem model could be better for them, as it lets them look at each other.
Tandem
While side-byside models are better for children of the same age, tandem lightweight double strollers come with their own appeal. Some can fit an extra car seat, while some have reversible seats. Some even come with an extra carrycot or a reclined seat that can be flipped in the middle. They tend to be more spacious and simple to get in and out of however their baskets are usually smaller than those on single buggies. They also have larger large canopies that have peekaboo windows, as well as one cup holder for the parent and padding for the legs of little ones.
The iCandy Peach tandem is another excellent example of a light tandem that is a excellent value. Its fabrics feel a little less premium than some of our other top-rated doubles but it looks and feels great and is very easy to use. One of the most impressive aspects about it is the one-handed fold. While it requires practice, Kirstie in our Lab declared it to be "genius". It's not possible to fold it with the carrycot attached but the mechanism for attaching and taking it off it is simple and quick.
Tandem double pushchairs are light and lightweight. They generally make more precise turns than side-byside models, however, they can be more difficult to drive on uneven surfaces and curbs. They can also be a little slower to pick up speed and may be heavier to move, which could put stress on your back.
A convertible double buggy is another option. It is initially a single, but you can add adapters to convert it into a double. These can include an additional seat or carrycot in the front, or the children can sit side-by-side. Some can also consider including a buggyboard that can help an older child keep up with a younger brother or sister.
The Uppababy Vista V2 can be transformed into a twin stroller with car seats stroller side by side (my explanation)-sized stroller by purchasing additional cocoons at PS59 each. These cocoons create a flat space for newborns. They can be placed on top of each other or positioned to each other's faces, and you can use them with the baby car seat that is included with the pushchair (as long as you choose the right one). These buggies with dual-use capabilities are made of quality materials and can last for many years without showing any wear. This means they come with the highest resale value.
Single-to-Double
This lightweight double buggy was designed for families who love the outdoors and want to upgrade from a single-stroller. It can be converted into a jogger using kits that include air-filled tires and all-wheel-suspension. It's also a great choice for twins, or children of different ages and, as triple tandem, it is able to take on rough terrain. It's also a good option for parents looking for an elegant design that's just as sleek as a single and comes in a variety of fabrics.
This iCandy model is easy to fold using a one-handed system. Although it's heavier than other pushchairs that are single-to-double in this review, our home tester Karolina claimed that it feels extremely maneuverable, even when she had two toddlers and a carrycot.
The seat can be used as a parent-facing and you can purchase accessories for this stroller like the Roma Gemini carrycots (PS100 each) which are great for babies. Our test panel found the seats to be comfortable for toddlers and had good headrests and lumbar support. There are numerous options to recline the seats, with the front seat adjustable in different positions and the back seat offering a reclining option.
This type of buggy has the greatest disadvantage of being wider than doubles that are side-by-side. This makes it difficult to maneuver through doorways and it can be difficult to move up and down kerbs. The suspension and wheels of these types of strollers are generally able to cope with surfaces that are paved. They're also lighter than most side-by-sides and, therefore, you can have plenty of storage space. It's important to keep in mind that strollers of this type aren't as adept at walking through the narrow aisles of supermarkets, and may struggle to handle a large amount of shopping. Even though it's easier to turn the stroller around on a small curved path, it can be a problem. Some are also more easy to turn than others, with the Thule Urban Glide 2 Double and the Baby Trend Sit N' Stand Double, for example.
Convertible
Convertible double pushchairs are ideal because they can be adapted to the changing requirements of a family. They are typically single buggies. They have adapters that allow you to add a second hand double buggy child's seat, a carrycot, or (in some cases) the car seat to the frame. Some can be converted back to a single when your older child starts to walk or prefers to ride buggyboards.
One of the lightest double strollers we have on our list, this fashionable tri-fold model can carry children up to 40lbs each. It also has a convenient basket that can be placed between the seats to store things. The large canopy with a peekaboo window, multi-position reclining seats and a front and back suspension for smoother riding on rough terrain were praised by the home testers. It also has a handy cup holder for the parent and an ample, easy-to-access basket. However, they noticed that the backs of the seats have small pockets that aren't big enough to hold much more than a cell phone and keys.
This high-end, lightweight side-by-side is available in more than 20 models. It also comes with a second seat and carrycot. Its impressive feature set includes a high-profile handlebar for easier steering and a rear and front suspension to smooth rough terrain; a self-standing compact fold with handy straps that make it easy to schlep and seven-inch swing lock front wheels and 10-inch rear wheels with suspension for a smoother ride. The only downside is that you'll have to purchase an additional car seat or baby carrier.
This versatile tandem is a top pick by our home testers due to its easy-to-maneuver size and impressively large shopping basket that is accessible from both seats facing towards the parent. It is easy to move around due to its light weight (about the same as a few single pushchairs). Reversible seats mean they can be switched to face either way, and the clever way that it can attach the second seat or riding board to the rear is appreciated by many. Parents also appreciated that it accommodates infant carriers and car seat from a variety of brands. This includes some that are not normally compatible with other double buggies.
