WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a an increase in certain statistics. Each upgrade increases the item level by +3. A random extra substat is also boosted alongside each upgrade.

The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless the item is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like the eth Titan weapons). Upgrades aren't as important for those with higher variance because of the requirement to roll an exact version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade gear to a higher item level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of weapon or armor. However, the item that is used for the upgrade items will be consumed for the duration of time and can't be used again. Upgrades can be applied to Enchantments.

The upgrader is located in all major cities and can be accessed at any time to upgrade your equipment. To keep your gear current it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each several weeks.

Upgrades will cost more depending on the item level, however they'll always be cheaper than purchasing new gear. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest up to 385 ilvl will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar item, it will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are functional items that are used to level up weapons tools, armor, and other items. They can be purchased by players from NPCs who sell upgrades for items in exchange for various currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be used on any tool, weapon or armor. The button will show a preview of an item's next upgrade level in the event that there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrades varies based on the item slot and the current item level, with weapons costing more than bracers or gloves, for example. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Some upgrades offer a discount on the Flightstones. After an item upgrading has been upgraded to a certain level, it can be degraded and returned to the upgrader for a lower amount of both currencies.

Upgraders for items are available in many places including the main island and some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade coupon and a chance to obtain the latest recipe. The upgrade discount increases when more items are upgraded. It can be increased if players finish certain achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an Item Level Upgrade upgrader at the beginning unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. Instead, the NPCs that can be used to upgrade require a variety of means, which is both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3, many new features have been added to the upgrade item system. After an upgrade has been completed to a specific level for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same item level, will cost less. This is true regardless of whether the items are from a different set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones required for upgrades is decreased, and the discount is available across all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is cut as well, but is only available when certain milestones have been reached.

Crests

Players have a variety of choices when it comes to upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are a currency that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more special and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are the main component of the Dragonflight gear progression system introduced in 10.1, and come in 4 ranks.

The first thing to be aware of is that crests can only be used on equipment that is of a particular rank, and every rank has different requirements for upgrading. The easiest and most straightforward upgrade is 15 crests. The most complex upgrade can require up to 20 crests, depending on the type or gear being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through working through tasks at the appropriate level. This could be done by engaging in outdoor activities or taking on dungeons and raids of all difficulty levels to obtain lower-level gear or Mythic+ raid bosses or dungeons that have a high difficulty for endgame gear. The crests can later be exchanged at an upgrader NPC, like Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to obtain the appropriate upgrade paths and steps.

Using these new currencies isn't too difficult, but the system introduces some modifications to the upgrade item process. For instance, when a piece of equipment reaches the highest level of upgrading for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change allows players to upgrade their equipment to the highest possible level on all of their characters rather than relying on seasonal loot.

It's also crucial to choose crests in a wise manner, as they are only used for one purpose. For instance it's a good idea use all of your Whelpling-rank crests with the Best item upgrade gear you have available, and then save Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you're planning on making. This is particularly applicable to items like trinkets and rings that fill several slots. The discount for the entire account will only apply when all the slots on the character are filled with high-quality equipment.
