WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give you boosts in certain stats. Each upgrade increases the level of the item by +3. Each upgrade also boosts the random substatus.

Upgraded gear is generally more useful, unless the item has a low requirement by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like the eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are less valuable for the latter because of the requirement to roll the perfect version.

Recycle Points

The upgrader for items allows players to upgrade gear to a higher item upgrade level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. However, the item level upgrade that is used for the upgrade will be consumed forever and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be used to create the enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in all major cities, and can be accessed at any time to upgrade your equipment. To keep your gear up-to-date it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every few weeks.

Upgrades will cost more, based on the item level, but they will always be cheaper than purchasing new gear. For example upgrading a Benthic chest piece to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points, purchasing a similar piece from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade tools, armor, weapon, and accessory upgrades. Players can purchase them from item upgraders NPCs for a variety of currencies. They are also available on random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased it can be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor with the help of button, which will display a preview of the item upgrader mod when it is upgraded when the player has enough materials.

The cost of upgrades varies based on the item slot and the current item Level upgrade level as well as the level of the weapon, which is more than bracers or gloves, for example. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Certain upgrades provide a discount on the Flightstones. Once an item is upgraded to a certain degree and is degraded, it can be sold and returned to the upgrader for a lesser amount of both currency types.

Many locations have upgraders for their items which include the main island and a few outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade discount and the chance to acquire a new upgrade recipe. The discount for upgrades increases with the number of items that are being upgraded, and can be increased by having players complete specific achievements or complete quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at start unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. The NPCs who can facilitate upgrades are only accessible through a variety means. This is both a benefit as well as a disadvantage.

In Season 3, several new features have been added to the upgrade system. Once a player obtains an upgrade to a certain item level for a particular armor slot, upgrading further items to the same level will cost less, even when they belong to an entirely different set of gear.

The discount applies to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is also reduced and is not available until players reach certain milestones in their achievements.

Crests

When upgrading gear in WoW players have a couple of choices. Flightstones are a currency that is available to everyone who wants to upgrade. Crests are more specialized, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an essential part of the Dragonflight gear progression system, which was introduced in 10.1, and come in four ranks.

First, you should know that crests are only available for equipment of a certain rank. Each rank has distinct upgrade paths. The simplest and easiest upgrade is 15 crests. The most complex upgrade could require as much as 20 crests, based on the kind of equipment that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through working through content at the appropriate level. This could be done by doing outdoor activities, or by doing dungeons or raids in all difficulties to get lower-level gear or Mythicbosses for raids, or dungeons with a heroic difficulty for endgame gear. The crests can later be exchanged at an upgrader NPC, like Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to get the appropriate upgrade routes and steps.

Using these new currencies isn't that difficult, but the system will introduce a few modifications to the upgrade process. For example, once an item is at the highest level of upgrading for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it won't require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change lets players upgrade their equipment to the highest possible ilvl on all of their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also crucial to choose crests with care, since they are only used for one purpose. For instance, it's a good idea use all of your Whelpling-rank crests with the best equipment you have, and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests for the next batch of upgrades you plan to make. This is particularly relevant for items like trinkets and rings that take up several slots. The discount for the entire account is only applicable when all slots on the character are filled with high-quality gear.
