Study of Chinese Learners' Pedagogical Choices in Korean

Their decisions were influenced primarily by four factors: their personalities and multilingual identities, their current life experiences as well as their relational affordances. First, the MQ data were analyzed to identify the participants' rational choices. The data was classified according to Ishihara (2010)'s definition of pragmatic resistance. Then, the responses were compared with their linguistic performance on the DCTs to determine if they reflected pragmatic resistance or not. The interviewees also had to explain the reasons for choosing the pragmatic approach in certain situations.

The results of the MQs and DCTs were then analyzed using descriptive statistics and z-tests. The CLKs were found employ euphemistic phrases such as "sorry" or "thank you". The RIs were recorded and transcribed, then coded by two coders who were independent. Coding was an iterative process, where the coders listened and discussed each transcript.
