Upgrades can increase the value of armors, weapons and rings. Upgrades also increase bonuses such as crit chance and PvE Damage.

If the weapon's upgrade template ends in %, it will gain an additional 3% of the previous damage every time it is upgraded.

The cost of upgrading an item increases as it reaches the current level of the item. The cost increases with the item's level.

Components

Upgrade components are items that can be put into armor, weapons, and trinkets to give an extra stat boost or impact while they're being used. These can be obtained by crafting, purchasing from vendors, trading with other players or looting. Certain upgrades come with special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can only be applied to equipment that has a slot. The item must be at least upgraded to a blue level before a component can be applied. Upgrade components, unlike other modifications, can only be applied only once. They are not able to be replaced or applied multiple times. Infusions and enrichments are a kind of upgrade component that can be used to upgrade non-amulet legendary or ascended equipment, as well as some non-ascended items. Each Glyph has a certain range of values it can improve a stat by. The value is displayed when you select the Glyph in your inventory. You can replace it with an Glyph that is the same or higher rank to boost the value of the Glyph.

Glyphs are available in the Black Lion Trading Post as part of an Gem Store bundle or purchase the glyphs with certain tools that allow unlimited use, and during Faction Crypt Raids. Leveling

The item upgrading system allows players to increase the effectiveness of certain items by placing upgraded components into them. This is often referred to as "upping". Every upgradeable item has a level that determines its upgraded stats. Upgraded items are able to be leveled up to a maximum of ilvl 385. Each level of an item requires different components, and the cost of upgrading increase with each level.

Some upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient can be obtained by the completion of Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be purchased from NPCs or found on the upgrade tab in the crafting table. Each Upgrade Recipe completed will result in a certain amount of Technology points. These points can be used to the upgrading of an item. When enough points have been earned, you will be able to claim the upgrade and get its extra bonuses.
