1. IRobot Roomba i3+ EVO
The i3+ EVO is similar to its sibling, the i3 EVO. They differ only in the fact that the i3+ comes with self-emptying capabilities. The i3+ is a great alternative for those who want a a fully automated, hands-off cleaning experience, but are willing to manually empty the robot's dustbin once it gets full.
Both robots excel at picking up surface debris on carpets and hard floors, and they're very adept in getting around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates a smart maps of your home that assist the i3+ to navigate and clean up efficiently. However, unlike the i7+ or other top-rated robots we evaluated, the i3+ doesn't have obstacle-avoidance capabilities, so it may be stuck on things like socks or power cords, and it can have difficulty navigating across surface transitions like hardwood to rug.
iRobot suggests cleaning up the area where the i3+ EVO vacuums before using it. This includes putting away any toys or other items it might come across. You should also keep the dustbin and filter clean to prevent them from becoming clogged. When the i3+ EVO's internal bin is empty or the battery is depleted, it returns to the docking station and automatically takes the dirt out of the docking station’s external dustbin. Then it continues cleaning where it began. The battery's lifespan is around an hour and a half of continuous usage. It takes about three hours to charge.
2. Roomba by iRobot
The iRobot Roomba i7+ is the Top Rated Robot vacuum model in the iRobot flagship line, and it is equipped with the most recent features. It's self-charging, self-navigating, and the most important feature of all -- it has self-emptying bins that eliminate one of the main sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum.
The Roomba I7+ can make rooms more efficient maps using Imprint Smart Mapping. It also works with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning jobs, and you can control your robot via the app or voice.
In our tests the i7+ performed quicker and more maneuverable than our second-placed model which was the eufy RoboVac G30, and it picked up large pieces of pet hair from all surface types, including carpeting. The biggest advantage over the Eufy is its self-emptying bin that eliminates major sources of maintenance and reduces recurring cost.
We were also impressed with the i7+’s compatibility with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant AI services. We used these services to instruct the robot on how to start or stop cleaning sessions as well as move around the room, and even vacuum a specific area. Connecting the i7+ to these services was easy and straightforward through the iRobot Home app. After being connected, to give voice commands to the i7+ such as "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home App also offers options for managing i7+ settings and evaluating the performance.
3. Dyson Cyclone V10
This tiny Dyson model is an athletic car in a sea of cordless vacuums that feel like minivans and buses. It is powerful enough to replace a traditional stand-up vacuum in most homes, yet it is also small enough to fit on the bookcase or coffee table.
The V10 is powered by seven cells of energy-dense Lithium-ion batteries, which produces power that is not fading for 60 minutes. The sophisticated whole-machine filter system captures allergens, and then lets cleaner air into your home. The specially designed head utilizes stiff nylon bristles to penetrate into carpets, and then pick up large particles or fine dust. It comes with three suction modes to suit the task being performed. It quickly switches from handheld to floor vacuum and back.
The model comes with a dock which charges the Dyson to 100 percent within 3.5 hours. It also offers an easy access to two attachments and a handheld. This is a huge improvement over the older Dysons models, which require a lengthy charge and are difficult to store.
The main drawback of the V10 is its limited running time. The claims of its marketing that it can provide up to 60 minutes of running time are a bit misleading as CR's tests have shown. This is a standard battery-powered vacuum's run time. It's still enough time to get rid of the majority of a home that's average size however, it's not enough to clean every area (though an additional run-through often can be effective). This model has its own advantages however: it's light and more maneuverable than earlier Dysons cordless models, and its vacuuming ability is noticeable superior on carpets with low pile.
4. iRobot Roomba 694"
One of iRobot's most adored robot vacuums the 694 is a basic model that's an excellent option for those who don't want to spend too much money on a robot. It's capable of sucking up all types of debris and sizes during our tests, and it frequently goes over the same areas several times to get a really thorough clean. Its flat front makes it possible to reach the corners and edges of walls.
Its smart navigation system uses iAdapt technology to steer clear of obstacles and help you navigate your home. It's not equipped with the ability to map that is found in more advanced models, such as our top picks, i3+EVO and J7+ Series. It can get stuck on phone cords or furniture and will often run out of power before returning to its original location.
The Xiaomi Mi robot is superior in many ways over the Roomba 694, as it has less parts that require regular cleaning, comes with an allergen-trapping HEPA filtering system, incurs lower cost of recurring costs and is more sophisticated in its automation capabilities and is able to better move its own. It also has a larger dustbin and charges faster.
The eufy RoboVac X8 has a superior battery life than the Roomba 694. It also has physical boundaries and can be controlled with the voice assistant on your smartphone. It is also more robust, has a larger motor, and is more effective on low-pile and bare floors.
5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+
Samsung is a brand you see on all sorts of home electronics It's no surprise that they're one of the most reputable robotic vacuum and mop makers. Jet Bot AI+ has an advanced onboard technology that allows to navigate and avoid obstacles.
The app offers a variety of options to customize your robotic floor vacuums cleaner. These include virtual barriers, mopping levels and behavior adjustments docking frequency settings, and many more. The app is simple to learn and use similar to other Samsung devices.
In our tests in our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ performed well on hard floors, and it cleaned up 86 percent of dog hair (on carpet). However, it did not do particularly well with higher-up objects like cords or socks which was disappointing. It's also a bit more expensive than some of the other models we've tested and could be a deterrent for certain shoppers.
The smart vacuum has an onboard camera that is accessible via the app, and you can also create a live stream from the robot's cleaning station. This feature allows you to keep track of your pets or children when you're away from home. The filter and the dustbin can be cleaned for an easy, quick clean-up. The Jet Bot AI+ comes with self-emptying clean stations, which helps to keep the bin clean and optimizes suction power.
6. Black & Decker Robot Vacuum
In contrast to other robotic vacuums which are designed for both hard floors and carpets, Black and Decker robots are designed specifically for hard floors. However the HRV 425BL kept moving across the border, without registering it as a cliff. The ability to program a cleaning schedule for each week is a time-saving convenience.
