How to Replace an audi spare key cost G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video Charles the humble mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. This sensor is located near the transmission's edge just above the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal the ECU via an uncolored wire (T55/49) which is then sent to the tachometer within the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

It is located on the outside of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends a signal to ECU pin T55/49 via an uncolored wire. The ECU then uses this information to control the boost, fuel, and timig. It also sends an indicator to the G5 Tachometer in instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to connect the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu must be aware when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is located so that it can activate spark and injectors according to the situation.

If this sensor fails when it fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error message. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is out of line with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of the possibility of a chain stretch or jump in the chain link of the upper timing chain. However the code will not appear on its own, without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

Testing is a bit tricky as there are two different pins for the connector and they have different functions however the best method of testing it is to measure resistance between the sensor and the ECU. 2. Injectors

Yesterday, when accelerating from highway paytoll at maximum speed, i noticed a huge reduction in power. It was like the engine was running out of gas. Or, my injectors weren't firing. I took out the spark plugs this morning, 3 were soaked in gasoline, and the 4th was dry. When I crank the engine with no sparks i put tissue on the top of each hole in the injector, the 3 drenched with gazoline jump out but the 4th one stays closed. I inspected the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55, 30/55 and 48/55. I got zero ohm. Therefore, i think the issue is elsewhere.

I also tried to reset PID but without success. The car can start if the G28 is disconnected and it runs perfectly when it is plugged in however it has the intermittent misfire issue at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for the coolant (G62) shows the wrong temperature value of that is -49c even after unplugging it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar while the actual pressure is zero.

I don't know what to do. I believe that I've eliminated everything else. But i'm worried that I might have missed something. If anyone has any suggestions, please share them! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 receives a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 sender and both work on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. It is easy to find an extra in a wrecking shop or parts store. It is simple to test them: simply switch your DMM into resistance mode and measure the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector end facing up). They must be infinite ohms.

4. ECU
