WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost to specific stats. Each upgrade increases item level by +3. Each upgrade also boosts a random substat.

Upgraded gear is generally more useful, unless the item has a low requirement by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a large variance in stats (like Eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are not as important for the latter because of the requirement to roll a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader enables players to upgrade gear to a higher level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied on any kind of armor or weapons. The Item Level Upgrade used to upgrade the item will be consumed and can't be used again. Upgrades can be applied to the enchantments.

The upgrader is located in all major cities, and can be visited at any time to upgrade your gear. To keep your gear up-to-date it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each couple of weeks.

The cost of upgrades will depend on the current item level of the item being upgraded but they will always be cheaper than buying new gear from other sources. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. A similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are functional items that are used to improve the quality of weapons, tools, armor, and other accessories. They can be purchased from NPCs of item upgraders for various currencies. They can also find them in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased, it can be applied to any weapon or tool using an button, which displays an item's preview at the next upgrade level if the player has sufficient materials.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the slot of the item upgrade and the current level of the item. For instance weapons are more expensive than bracers, or gloves. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones and a number of crests, with certain upgrades having a discount to reduce the cost of the Flightstones or the crests used. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain level, it can be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.

A lot of locations offer upgraders for items in addition to the main island and some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade discount and a chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The upgrade discount increases with the number of items that are being upgraded. It can also be increased by requiring players to complete specific achievements or complete quests.

Contrary to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II, there is no upgrader for items available at the beginning of Icewind Dale. The NPCs who can facilitate upgrades are only available through a variety of methods. This is both a benefit and a drawback.

In Season 3, many new features have been added to the upgrade system. After a player has upgraded to a certain level of item for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same item upgrade level, will cost less. This is true even if those items come from another set of gear.

The discount is applicable to all accounts. In the same way, the amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is also reduced and is not available until players achieve certain achievement milestones.

Crests

When it comes to upgrading equipment in WoW, players have a few choices. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specialized, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an integral part of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests can only be used on equipment that is of a particular rank, and each rank has different requirements for its upgrade path. The simplest and easiest upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade can require up to 20 crests, contingent on the kind of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through completing content of the appropriate level, which involves walking around and engaging in outdoor activities for gear of lower tiers, raids or dungeons of all difficulty for items of higher tier or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses or dungeons for endgame gear. Crests can be exchanged at an item upgrader NPC like Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to obtain the appropriate upgrade pathways and steps.

The new currency system isn't too difficult to use, but it does bring some changes to the upgrade process. For example, once a piece of equipment reaches the highest upgrade level of any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is designed to allow players to get their equipment up to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

Another significant change is that crests only have one usage, so it's important to use them wisely. It is recommended to use your Whelpling-rank crests on the Best item upgrader gear that you can find and save Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next set of upgrades. This is particularly true for items such as trinkets and rings that take up several slots. The discount for the entire account is only applicable when all slots on the character are filled with high-quality gear.
