WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades provide a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade increases Item Level Upgrade level by 3. Each upgrade items also boosts an unspecified substat.

Upgraded gear generally sees greater value for trade as long as it meets low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or very high stat variation (like eth titan weapons). Upgrades aren't as important for those with lower requirements due to the requirement to roll an exact version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by giving the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. However, the item upgrader kit that is used to upgrade item will remain in use for a long time and can't be used again. Upgrades can be used to create Enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear up-to-date it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each couple of weeks.

The cost of upgrades will be based on the current item level upgrade level of the equipment being upgraded however, they will always be less expensive than buying new equipment from other sources. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. A similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items which can be used to level up weapons tools, armor, and other accessories. They can be purchased by players from NPCs of item upgraders for a variety of currencies. They can also find them on random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be applied to any weapon, tool or armor. The button will show the preview of an item's next upgrade level if there are enough materials.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the slot for the item and the current level of the item. For example, weapons will cost more than gloves, bracers, or bracers. Each step costs 15 Flightstones and a number of crests, with certain upgrades offering discounts to lower the cost of Flightstones or crests used. Once an item is upgraded to a certain degree it is able to be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.

Many locations have upgraders for their items in addition to the main island and some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade coupon as well as the possibility of obtaining the latest recipe. The upgrade discount increases with the number of items that are being upgraded, and can be boosted by having players complete specific achievements or complete quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at the beginning, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. The NPCs who are able to facilitate upgrades are available only through a variety of methods. This is both a benefit as well as a disadvantage.

In Season 3, several new features have been added to the upgrade system. Once a player obtains an upgrade to a particular level for an item in an armor slot, upgrading additional items to that same item level will cost less, even if they are part of a different gear set.

The amount of Valorstones needed for upgrades is decreased, and the discount is available across all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed for upgrades is also cut and is not available until players have reached certain achievement milestones.

Crests

When upgrading equipment in WoW players have a couple of choices. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more specialized and are utilized during specific item level upgrades. Crests are a crucial part of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System that was introduced in version 10.1. They come in four ranks.

First, you must be aware that the crests can only be purchased for gear with a certain rank. Each rank comes with an upgrade path that is different. The simplest and simplest upgrade process costs just 15 crests while the most complicated requires as many as 20 crests depending on the type of equipment that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by completing content of the appropriate level, whether that involves walking around and performing outdoor activities for lower-tier gear, dungeons or raids of all difficulty for items of higher tier, or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses and dungeons for gear that is used in the endgame. These crests can be exchanged with an item upgrader, such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken to upgrade the item in the proper steps and routes.

The new currency system isn't complicated to use, but it brings some changes to the upgrade process. Once a piece of gear attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it will no longer require Flightstones. This change is designed to allow players to upgrade their gear up to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters, instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

Another notable modification is that crests have one use and it's crucial to use them wisely. For instance, it's a good idea to utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests on the top equipment available and save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you plan to create. This is particularly applicable to items like trinkets and rings that take up multiple slots. The account-wide discount is only applicable when all slots on the character are filled with high-quality equipment.
