Upgrades boost the value of certain numeric stats on armor, weapons and rings. They also boost extra bonuses like damage from PvE and crit chance.

If the template for upgrading a weapon is in %, the weapon will gain 3% of its previous damage for each time it is upgraded.

The cost of upgrading an item is determined by the item's level. The cost increases as the item's level increases.

Components

Upgrade components can be added to trinkets, armor, and weapons in order to provide them with a boost in stats or to add an additional effect. They can be obtained by crafting, buying from vendors, trading or looting. Some upgrades can also be accompanied by special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can be placed in equipment that has a slot to accommodate them. The item must have been at a minimum upgraded to blue level to allow a component to be inserted. Unlike other mods, upgrade components can only be used once and cannot be applied repeatedly or replaced with upgrades. Infusions and enrichments are a kind of upgrade component used to upgrade non-amulet legendary and Ascended equipment, as well in some items that aren't ascended. Infusions and enrichments can be retrieved by salvaging gear from the ascended, or by completing an elite mission in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.

A suffix or prefix can be added to an upgrade, which alters the name of the item upgrader kit it is applied to (for example, 'Canthan Armor Insignia,' becomes Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Certain upgrades boost the Mark Rarity or Level of an item upgrade, allowing players to create stronger versions of the item using the smallest amount of Upgrade crystals than they require to achieve the same level with normal methods.

A boost upgrade can alter the attack or defence attributes of a weapon, or armor. These upgrades are available to be made from the Portative Forging Station once the player completes the cutscene and defeats the Crazed mechanic. They can be dropped by enemies while upgrading other gear or by purchasing them in the cash shop for 500 upgrade crystals each.

Each upgrade increases the chance that a higher tier version of the item will be available at the next reset. This gives the player some incentive to continue improving their equipment even if they're not sure of how much it will improve after a future reset.

The process of upgrading an item could be expensive, and it is possible that the item will be obsolete, or even break, when the upgrade is unsuccessful. Upgrade Crystals and assist powders are also destroyed when an upgrade fails. This is reduced by the availability of cash shop items to increase or even eliminate the possibility of failure, as well as a few upgrades that give the benefit of being reinserted into an item.

Glyphs

Glyphs can be used to upgrade the Paragon Board by placing them in sockets with special functions. Glyphs increase the power of nodes within a radius, and include any existing affixes. Glyphs are upgraded in many ways. We recommend upgrading them as quickly as possible up to 15 levels.

In the endgame, you will often find that the best way to enhance your equipment is to use Glyphs. These are the only upgrade components which can be upgraded to level 15 and offer significant boosts to your power on the Paragon Board.

Glyphs, the sole upgrade component which can be removed without restriction and then replaced again are the most popular. The only exception is legendary equipment, which requires a Black Lion Salvage Kit to salvage and re-place.

Each Glyph has a particular range of values can enhance a stat by, and the value is displayed when you choose the Glyph in your inventory. You can replace it with another Glyph that is of the same or higher rank to boost the value of the Glyph.

There are Glyphs in the Black Lion Trading Post, as part of an Gem Store purchase or bundle with certain unlimited-use gathering tools and also through Faction Crypt raids. Every Faction Crypt can drop one of these Glyphs. There are some rare glyphs which you can find in any of the Faction Crypts.

After you have acquired the desired Glyphs you will need them to be placed on your gear. Each Glyph will unlock a unique bonus that can boost the stats of a particular set of nodes that are within a radius of the Glyph. It could be +40 for one of your primary stats or +25 for two of your secondary stats, based on the Glyph.

The use of a Glyph can boost all nodes connected to it, and it is recommended to position your Glyphs near the most important nodes of the Graph to maximise the impact. Leveling

The item upgrade system allows players to increase the power of certain items by adding upgraded components. This is commonly known as "upping". Each upgradeable item is assigned a level which determines the final statistics. Upgraded items can be upgraded to a maximum of ilvl 385. Each item level requires a different amount of components and the cost of upgrading increase as the item is leveled up.

Some upgrades require a special ingredient to activate. This ingredient is obtained by making Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be found in the upgrade tab of a crafting table or bought from NPCs. Each Upgrade Recipe that is completed will result in a certain amount of Technology points. These points can be used to upgrade the item, and once enough are earned, the upgrade can be claimed and its additional bonuses will be added to the item.

When an item is upgraded by a player it is replaced with a new item of the same kind. The same armor can be transformed into a weapon or a shield when upgraded. The new item will have a unique bonus. This could be a problem in that it could cause the item to become more expensive, even if you don't need it.

Item upgrades can sometimes be rerolled, if the player has enough reroll tokens to do so. The item will be replaced by a brand new one that is based on a level 1 base and completely different bonuses. This is a good option for some items, but it's not something that should be repeated often, as it could waste lots of resources.

Some upgrades can be rerolled several times which increases their value and allowing the player to customize their gear. One example is Dolphin's Gift, which gives an advantage when a player repeatedly enters and exits water (or is able to swim like dolphins). The item can be upgraded multiple times and increases the maximum roll each time by 10 increments. This item is very useful in PvP. A well-rolled version could be worth as much as 50x the value of the non-upgraded version.

Requirements

The upgrade of items allows players to increase the level of their equippable gear--armor, weapons and trinkets that are above ilvl 385 by providing the appropriate items and currencies to an item upgrader NPC. Upgrades to armor set pieces also increase the defense base of the piece, whereas upgrading weapon items will increase the base damage as well as the required strength and dexterity to match the requirements of the upgraded equipment.

All items are upgradeable up to five times, with the exception for hero equipment, which is able to be upgraded eight times. Every time you upgrade an item it is given an opportunity to fail. The rate of failure increases as you go beyond the maximum amount of upgrades. Failures will result in the item returning to its original state and the player having to spend additional items than if they stopped upgrading after the maximum number.

If an item is not able to upgrade the amount of experience in its growth bar is reset to zero. Additionally the item will lose any bonus it earned such as crit chance and attack damage, as well as any other effects that are associated with that effect (for example, increased heal over time or reload speed). However, the user can continue to use the weapon or armor following the failure.

Whenever an item is upgraded, the upgrades are applied from lowest to highest. This means that, should a weapon gain an increase in its crit chance the increase is applied prior to any increase in attack damage. A new attribute known as Slots has been added to the definition of the item and the value is calculated each time an upgrade is applied.

The amount of resources required to upgrade an item upgrade are determined by its rarity rating and the number of upgrade slots. The cost of upgrading non-premium equipment is equivalent to its value. Premium items may have different upgrade requirements from normal equipment. For example they may require less sowels, however they may require more minerals and orons. The player will need to bring every piece of equipment they want to upgrade items to the NPC [Armor] Boboko located in Central Flarine. In addition to the upgrade costs listed above, each equipment upgrade will require the use of different ingredients needed to upgrade.
