Will Double Buggy From Birth Always Rule The World
Buying a Double Buggy From Birth
There are a lot of factors to consider when selecting the perfect double buggy from the moment of birth. We spoke to Fourth Trimester postnatal retreat expert Katie Billingsley for her advice on everything from seating options and age ranges to folding mechanisms and storage space.
A must-have for active families This buggy will grow with your family from twins through to toddlers. It's lightweight and movable, and can handle uneven terrain with ease.
What kind of buggy do you prefer?
A double buggy is ideal for transporting two children, not necessarily of the same age, side by side. They can also function as prams. Each seat is equipped with a reclining mechanism so that your children can sit or lie down in different positions. A lot of them have plenty of storage space to store everything from snacks and drinks to nappies and wipes. They are usually light they fold easily and are compact enough to fit in the car boot. If you drive a lot it's important to make sure the buggy's ease of use with the folded wheels as well as to get it out and back into your car boot.
The most common type of double buggy is the side-byside one, which you've probably seen on other mothers pushchairs, or perhaps ridden in as a kid. They're great for older siblings or twins who want to keep up with you. They are also available in various seating options such as 'cinema seats'. They're generally easy to steer and, if you opt for a model with a soft suspension, you can make light work of kerbs.
Tandem buggies are a popular option because they're more maneuverable than a side-by-side. This is due to the fact that the second seat sits behind the first one, instead of sitting over it. The seats are typically larger and heavier than a side-by-side and you must ensure whether they are able to pass through doors or on public transport. They can be used to transport twins or a toddler and baby or three kids with the addition of a buggy.
Lastly there are the'single-to-double' convertibles which can be used as a single pushchair from birth then convert to a double by attaching a second hand double buggy seat, carrycot or car seat to their clever frame. They're generally more expensive than side-by-sides and tandem buggies, but they offer a lot of flexibility and have a great return on investment. They are easy to steer and have a large storage basket. They are also able to handle uneven surfaces. Some have a built in ride-on board for children older than and 'cinema chairs'.
Do you have twins?
double pram buggy (content) buggys are the best way to transport your children, whether they are twins or older siblings. There are two types of double buggies: tandem buggies, where one child sits above the other, and side by side buggies. Both buggies are able to accommodate two fixed seats. However, side-by-side buggies are narrower to be able to pass through doors. Tandems tend to be wider in general. They can also accommodate a carrycot or toddler seat.
Do you have a baby?
Having a younger sibling can feel like quite an overwhelming responsibility at first, especially when you must tend to the baby. They might also feel left out when they are in an infant carrier while you push the older one ahead, so having a double buggy from birth can make things easier. It will also help your child settle into their new role of a 'big sister or brother'.
Side-by-side buggies can be a good option for twins, since both children will share the same view. However they're heavy and heavy. We love the streamlined B-AGILE DOUBLE from Leclerc that features an innovative frame that opens in width to accommodate two seats fixed. It also offers different configuration options, including using the second seat as baby carrier or a bassinet.
Alternatively, we recommend the Mountain Buggy Double Trailblazer for active families who like to explore. This innovative twin buggy is a single-pushchair that can be converted into double by adding an additional seat or carrycot (depending on model). Its smooth ride is ideal for rough terrain, and it comes with many thoughtful features that will ensure that everyone is happy.
Do you require an automated system of travel for your business?
Double buggies can be an excellent way to transport your children in a comfortable way. However, they are not necessary for every family. Depending on your lifestyle and the age gap between your kids, you may be able to get by with just a single twin stroller and some attachments, such as toddler harnesses and baby carriers that let you carry your child around on their back or in front of you.
If you do opt for a double buggy there are three kinds to choose from: side-by-side, tandem and convertible. The two seats are placed in a row, so that your children will be able to see one another. They are wider than a single stroller and aren't easy to navigate over the kerbs. Tandem buggies are a more compact alternative, with one seat in the front and another in the rear, however they can still be heavy and long to push.
Convertible double buggies are great because they let you convert your stroller to a dual buggy by simply attaching an infant bassinet or car seat to the frame. This way, you can keep your baby comfortably in their car seat until they're ready for a move into the main buggy seat. The UPPAbaby Vista V2 is a fantastic illustration of this. It's suitable for twins, a baby and toddler or even three kids with the addition of the optional PiggyBack board.
As your children grow older and more mobile to walk, you can opt for double buggys to accompany them to cycling trips or other day trips where they may prefer to walk. It's important to keep in mind that they may not desire to be in a buggy, and they could easily be tired and disgruntled when they are on longer excursions.
Before you decide to invest in a double buggy from birth, take some time to consider the above factors and the particular circumstances of your family. Having a sturdy and reliable double stroller will simplify life particularly if you have to navigate through busy streets or crowded shopping centres.
