WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade increases item upgrade level by 3. Each upgrade also increases a random substat.

The upgraded gear typically has a higher trade value as long as it meets low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or very high stat variance (like eth titan weapons). These types of gear get less value from upgrading due to the necessity to roll to get a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of weapon or armor. However, the item that is used to upgrade will be consumed for the duration of time and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be applied to enchantments.

The upgrader is located in all major cities and is accessible anytime to upgrade your gear. To keep your gear up-to-date it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each couple of weeks.

Upgrades will cost more depending on the item level, however they'll always be cheaper than buying new gear. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. A similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase weapon, armor, tool and accessory upgrades. Players can purchase them from NPCs of item upgraders in a variety of currencies. They are also available on random treasure lists. Once an upgrade item is purchased, it can be used on any weapon, tool, or armor using a button, which displays a preview of the item level upgrade (relevant site) at the next upgrade level if the player has sufficient materials.

The upgrade items cost depends on the item upgrader kit slot and current item level, with weapons costing more than gloves or bracers for example. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Some upgrades give a discount on the Flightstones. Once an item is upgraded to a certain amount it is able to be degraded and returned to the upgrader for a lesser amount of both currency types.

Upgraders for items can be found in a variety of locations, including the main island, as well as a few outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade discount and the chance to obtain a new upgrade recipe. The discount for upgrading increases when more items are upgraded. It can be increased if players complete certain achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at start unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. The NPCs that can assist with upgrades are only accessible through a variety of methods. This is both a benefit and a disadvantage.

In Season 3 the upgrade system has been tweaked a bit, with several new features added. Once an upgrade has been completed to a specific level for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same item level, will cost less. This is even if those items are from another set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones required for upgrades is decreased, and the discount is account-wide. The amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is cut also, but is only available when certain milestones are achieved.

Crests

Players have a number of choices when it comes to upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are a currency that is available to everyone who wants to upgrade. Crests are more specific and are utilized during specific item level upgrades. Crests are a key element of the Dragonflight gear progression system, which was introduced in 10.1 and are available in four ranks.

The first thing to remember is that the crests can only be purchased for equipment with a certain rank. Each rank comes with an upgrade path that is different. The simplest and easiest upgrade is 15 crests. The most complex upgrade could require as much as 20 crests, depending on the type or gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by finishing content at the appropriate level, whether that means walking around and doing outdoor activities to get lower-tier gear, dungeons or raids of all difficulty for items of higher tier or Mythic+ dungeons or heroic raid bosses to obtain endgame gear. These crests are then exchanged with an upgrader like Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and paths.

The use of these currencies isn't too complicated however, the system introduces some changes to the overall upgrade process. For instance, once an item reaches the highest level of upgrading for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This allows players to upgrade their equipment to the highest possible level on all their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another significant change is that crests only have one usage therefore it's essential to use them wisely. For instance it's a good idea to use all of your Whelpling-rank crests with the best equipment available, and then save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you're planning to create. This is especially true for items such as trinkets and rings that take up several slots. The discount for the entire account is only applicable when all slots on the character are filled with high-quality gear.
