World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading

Upgrades can boost the value of armors, weapons and rings. They also boost extra bonuses like crit chance and PvE damage.

If the weapon's upgrade item template is in %, the weapon will be able to gain 3percent of its previous attack damage each time it is upgraded.

The cost for upgrading items increases when they reach the item's current level. The cost increases as the level of the item increases.

Components

Upgrade components are items that can be inserted into armor, weapons, and trinkets to give an extra stat boost or impact while they're being used. They can be obtained through crafting, buying from vendors, trading with other players or looting. Certain upgrades also come with special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can only be applied to equipment with a slot. The item must be upgraded to a blue level before a component can be applied. In contrast to other mods components can only be used one time; they cannot be applied repeatedly or replaced by new upgrades. Infusions and enrichments are a kind of upgrade component that can be used to upgrade non-amulet legendary or Ascended equipment, as well in some items that aren't ascended. Infusions and enrichments are recovered by salvaging gear from the ascended, or by completing an elite mission in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.

A prefix or suffix can be added to an upgrade, which alters the name of the item it is used on (for instance, 'Canthan Armor Insignia',' changes to Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Some upgrades increase an item's Mark Level, or Rarity, which allows players to create stronger versions of that equipment using less Upgrade Crystals than would be required to achieve the same level of upgrade through normal methods.

A 'boost upgrade' can alter the defense or attack properties of a weapon, or armor. After the player has completed the cutscene and defeated Crazed Mechanist the upgrades can be created at the Portative Forging Station. They can be dropped by enemies while upgrading other gear or buying them from the cash store for 500 upgrade crystals.

The player is able to have a maximum of five boost upgrades at a time. Each upgrade increases the probability that a higher-level version of the item will be available during the next reset. This gives players an incentive to upgrade their equipment even if they are unsure what will be improved following the reset.

Whether a boost upgrade is successful or not, the process may be costly and there is a substantial risk that the item may become obsolete or even break if it fails. A failure to upgrade can destroy Upgrade Crystals and Assist Powder as well as the upgraded item. Cash shop items can be used to minimize or eliminate the chance of failure. Some upgrades also offer an additional bonus when reinserted.

Glyphs

Glyphs are upgrade components that can be placed in special sockets on the Paragon Board. Glyphs increase the power of nodes within a radius, and include any existing affixes. Glyphs can be upgraded in various ways, and we suggest upgrading them to 15 levels whenever you can.

You'll often see in the final game that placing Glyphs is the most effective way to upgrade your gear. They are the only upgrade component that can be upgraded straight to level 15 and offer a large boost to your power and radius on the Paragon Board, enabling you to reach higher nodes faster.

Most of the upgrades in the game can be replaced, however Glyphs are the one upgrade component that can be removed and replaced without restrictions. The only exception is legendary equipment that requires an Black Lion Salvage Kit to salvage and re-place.

Each Glyph has a specific range of values that it can improve a stat by. The value is shown when you select the Glyph in your inventory. You can replace it with a different Glyph of the same rank or higher rank, which will increase the value of the glyph.

Glyphs can be found in the Black Lion Trading Post as part of an Gem Store bundle or purchase, with certain unlimited-use tools, and during Faction Crypt Raids. Each Faction Crypt will drop one of these Glyphs. There are some rare glyphs you can find in any of the Faction Crypts.

After you have acquired the desired Glyphs you will need them to be placed on your equipment. Each Glyph unlocks a bonus that will boost the stats of a specific set of nodes in a radius surrounding the Glyph. It can be +40 for one of your primary stats or +25 for two of your secondary stats based on the Glyph.

Glyphs will boost all nodes that are connected to them, which is why it is recommended to place Glyphs in the most important locations on the Graph. This will maximize the impact. Druids, for instance should position their Glyphs close to their primary damage nodes. They may be able to place them near their most critical damage nodes.

Leveling

The item upgrade system allows players to boost the stats of specific items by inserting upgraded components. This is commonly known as "upping". Each upgradeable item comes with an amount, which determines its final upgraded stats. Upgraded items can be leveled up to a maximum of 385 ilvl. Each item level requires a different number of components to be reached and the costs for upgrading increase as the item gets upgraded.

Certain upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient is obtained by the completion of Upgrade Recipes. These recipes are available in the upgrade tab of a crafting table, or obtained from NPCs. Each Upgrade Recipe completed will result in a certain amount of Technology points. These points can be used to upgrading an item. When enough points have been earned, you will be able to claim your upgrade and also receive the bonuses.

When the player upgrades an item it is replaced with a new item of the same type. This means that the same armor piece will get a weapon or shield when upgraded. The new item will come with a bonus of its own. This could be a drawback, as it can cause the item to become more expensive if you don't require it.

If the player has enough tokens they can roll item upgrades. The item will be replaced with the same item, but it has a base of level 1 and totally different bonuses. This is a good idea but it shouldn't be done often as it can be a waste of resources.

Certain upgrades can be rerolled many times which increases their value and allows the player to modify their gear. An excellent example is Dolphin's Gift, which gives a buff when the player repeatedly enters and exits water (or does not swim as a dolphin). The item can be upgraded several times and increases the maximum roll every time by 10 increments. This item is extremely valuable in PvP, as a perfectly rolled version of it can be worth between 20 and 50x its value if it is not upgraded.

Requirements

The ability to upgrade items allows players to increase the quality of their equippable equipment - weapons, armor, and trinkets above ilvl 385--by offering the appropriate items and currency to an item upgrader, click this, NPC. Upgrades to armor set pieces improve the strength of their base defense, while upgrades to weapon items increase their base damage and also increase their strength and dexterity.

Each item level upgrade can be upgraded up to five times, with the exception for hero equipment, which can be upgraded eight times. Every time you upgrade an item it has the chance to fail. The failure rate increases the farther you go over the maximum amount of upgrades. Failures can result in the item returning to its original state, which requires the player to purchase more items than if they stopped upgrading after the maximum number.

If an item is not able to upgrade, the amount of accumulated experience in its growth bar is reset to zero. The item will also lose any bonuses it has gained, such as chances to be crit, attack damage, or additional effects (such as a higher healing rate over time, or the speed of reloading). The player can continue to use their weapon or armor after the failure.

When an item is upgraded, the upgrades are applied from the lowest to highest. This means that the weapon that is upgraded receives a crit chance boost, the increase will be applied prior to any damage to attack increases. A new attribute known as Slots is now added to the item's definition and the value is recomputed each time an upgrade is applied.

The amount of resources needed to upgrade an item is determined by its rarity rating and upgrade slot count. The cost of upgrading equipment that is not premium is equal to its base value. For example an item of common use could have five upgrades at a cost of. 25,600 Technology Points and a 4x Quality Improvement Chance--whereas hero grade items will come with an incredibly lower cost for each additional upgrade.

Premium items might have different upgrade requirements than regular gear. For instance they might require fewer sowels, but more minerals and orons. However, players will have to visit the NPC [Armor] Boboko in Central Flarine with each piece of equipment they want to upgrade. Each equipment upgrade requires different amounts of the ingredients for upgrading, in addition to the expenses listed above.
