Item upgrades can be used to improve the stats of a particular item. Based on the type of upgrade, it may boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity and boost additional stats.

Each item comes with a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next item by a specified amount.

Item Level

When an item is upgraded, its basic stats are increased in value. This value is the sum of an item's leveled-up perks (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be expensive depending on who you hire and what you do. This is due to the fact that many perks must be replaced to allow the item to get upgraded.

The level of an item is a commonly used measurement of power and is visible on all tooltips for items. It also serves to limit how much PvP gear players are able to wear as PvP is restricted at lower levels. The average level of an item is listed on the character sheet.

When deciding whether to buy or sell equipment players can look at the levels of the item. It's a useful gauge of an item's worth and how much damage it will be capable of dealing with. Comparing items in the inventory of a vendor can be done by using the item level.

The level of the item can be checked by pressing the ALT key on PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will show the item's full description, including ilvl. It is also accessible by hovering over an item using the mouse cursor and typing /itemlevel in chat.

There are many theories about how the level of an item is determined. One theory suggests that the level of an item is calculated using formulas that determine how valuable an item's stats really are. It is based on the fact that different benefits are valued differently and that gems in sockets increase the value of the item. This can result in a calculated item's ilvl that is typically very close to Blizzards actual level of the item.

It's not the only thing that affects the ilvl of an item. The level of the area where the item was dropped may alter its stats. For instance it can increase the Best item upgrader's haste or crit rating. Items that drop in higher-level situations will have a higher value.

Item Stats

The stats of an item can determine the fate of an item for players. The game utilizes them in a variety of ways to encourage players not to limit themselves to a single weapon, and to encourage players to experiment with other weapons. The base stats of a weapon are boosted by the weapon's stat modification that are in turn boosted by the player's level.

Upgrades to the item add by increasing certain stats of the item. The upgrade costs are determined by the rarity of the item. A white or grey item, for example, will only be upgraded once however, items that has rare tiers can be upgraded multiple times at more expensive costs.

Affixes can also be used to change an item's stats. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item upgrade by the player and they come in all shapes and sizes. Affixes can do things like give the item upgrading additional damage, or give a specific capability to the item (such as reviving dead or reducing the cooldowns) or make the item unique by putting an additional name to the item.

All affixes can be being re-rolled right now by selecting them in the upgrade window, pressing the green button. This procedure will cost the player a specific amount of gold and items which can be used to add to the upgrade gauge in the same manner as the other rerolling options.

Players can choose to upgrade an item with a specific stat or reroll attaches. The stat ranges are determined by the item's level. However each item will include at least one stat within that range unless they are an item that is unique or the item is a God Roll from a boss in a raid.

Another thing that could change is the possibility to upgrade equipment without having to roll the attaches, or select which stats to enhance. Like the base equipment, it must be done per item and the item comparison interface will not show all possible stats at once.

Item Luck

A player's Luck stat stacks up to increase the chances of item discoveries, the properties spawned on loot drops and the intensity of those properties. It doesn't, however, directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It merely gives players a possibility to obtain better gear in earlier waves and is therefore more beneficial in the initial game run than later ones as most players prioritize higher weapon scaling and defenses over raw damage gains.

In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the chances of success when upgrading items with the Blacksmith. This is not to confuse with the Blacksmith's overall chances of upgrading, which increase with each new level of item. These can also be enhanced by using anti-materials, such as a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

Weapons, armor, and shields can be made or spawn with the Luck property, with an initial value of 40. These items can be enhanced with golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the material of the item) to grant a further +40 Luck or to increase the existing Luck of an item, up to 140.

Certain items, like the weapon with Hollow-infused components, can also be equipped to increase the damage dealt by any skill that is able to deal damage by 5percent. These items can be purchased from the shop, or they can be made using the correct ingredients.

Item Failure

Not all upgrades are successful. However, there are some cash shop items that allow players to boost their chances of success or even prevent them from losing an item if the upgrade fails.

The rate of success of an upgrade is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the probability of successfully upgrading that item upgrade, and can be enhanced by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The percentage of success can only be increased as much, and the chance that an upgrade will fail can't exceed 100%.

The luck of an item can influence the effectiveness of an upgrade. Every item has a success rate of 25 percent and each item with Luck increases this chance by 5percent.

Note that item upgrades are rendered above the items in the inventory therefore enchantment glints and other effects may be masked by them.
