Upgrades can boost the value of armors, weapons and rings. They also increase bonuses, such as PvE damage and crit chance.

Components

Upgrade components are items that can be slotted into armor, weapons, and trinkets to give an additional stat boost or effect while they're in use. They can be obtained by crafting, purchasing from vendors trading or looting. Certain upgrades have unique cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can be placed in equipment with a slot for them. The item upgrades must be at least upgraded to the blue level to allow a component to be applied. Upgrade components, unlike other mods can only be applied once. They cannot be replaced or applied several times. Infusions and Enrichments are a type of upgrade component used to upgrade non-amulet legendary or ascending equipment, as in some items that aren't ascended. Infusions and enrichments can be obtained by salvaging equipment from the ascended state or completing a quest in the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns.

An upgrade can include a suffix or prefix changing the name of the equipment with the upgrade (for instance "Canthan Armor Insignia' becomes Canthan Armor of Minor Vigor). Some upgrades increase an item's Mark Level or Rarity, allowing players create stronger versions of the equipment using fewer Upgrade Crystals than would be required to achieve the same level of upgrade using normal methods.

A boost upgrade can alter the attack or defense characteristics of a weapon or armor.
