Upgrades to items allow players to improve their weapons and gear by adding new affixes, boosting its stats base or giving additional benefits. To upgrade items, players must have the item in their inventory and access the kiln.

Usually objects that have weak bases (like rings) can be upgraded to a stronger base, whereas items with strong bases like eth titans do not vary much in their stats after being upgraded.

Upgrade components

Upgrade components are items that can be used to upgrade trinkets, armor, weapons and tools for gathering, offering an attribute bonus or additional impact when the equipment is being used. Path of Exile's upgrade process is different from previous versions in several important ways. Gear is now classified into tracks, and each item is able to be upgraded so many times before it's "leveled out." The cost of upgrading increases with each level, however the materials needed do not.
