20 Things You Should Know About Item Upgrade
WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader
Upgrades give you an increase in specific stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by +3. A random substat is also increased with every upgrade items.
Upgraded gear is generally more useful, unless the item has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are not as useful for the latter because of the requirement to roll an exact version.
Recycle Points
The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by giving the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be made on any kind of weapon or armor. However, the item that is used to upgrade will be consumed for the duration of time and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create the enchantments.
You can upgrade your gear anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader every couple of weeks to keep your equipment up-to-date.
The cost of upgrading will vary based on the current item level of the equipment being upgraded but they will always be cheaper than buying new equipment from other sources. For instance upgrading a Benthic chest piece to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points while buying a similar item from a different player will cost 105.
Valorstones
Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase weapons, armor, tools and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased by players from NPCs who sell upgrades for items in exchange for different currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased, it can be used on any weapon or tool with the help of The button will display the item upgrade's next upgrade level, if there are enough materials.
The cost of upgrading is based on the item slot and current item level and the weapon's price is higher than gloves or bracers for instance. Each step costs 15 Flightstones and a variety of crests, with certain upgrades offering discounts to reduce the cost of Flightstones or the crests used. After an item level upgrade has been upgraded to a certain amount and is degraded, it can be sold and sold back to the upgrader for a lower amount of both currencies.
Upgraders for items can be found at many locations including the main island, as well as a few outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade discount and the chance to obtain a new upgrade recipe. The discount for upgrading increases when more items are upgraded. It can be increased if players complete certain achievements or quests.
Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the beginning unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. Instead, the NPCs that can be used to upgrade require a variety of means that are both an improvement but also a drawback.
In Season 3 the upgrade system was modified a bit, and some new features added. After the player has upgraded to a certain level of item for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same item level, will cost less. This applies even if the items come from another set of gear.
The amount of Valorstones needed for upgrades is reduced, and the discount is affixed to all accounts. Similarly, the amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is also reduced and is not available until players achieve certain achievement milestones.
Crests
When it comes to upgrading equipment in WoW players have a few options. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specific and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are an important element of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System that was introduced in version 10.1. They come in four ranks.
The first thing to be aware of is that crests can only be used on equipment that is of a particular rank, and that each rank has its own requirements for its upgrade path. The most basic and straightforward upgrade process costs just 15 crests while the most complex can require as much as 20 crests based on the type of equipment being upgraded.
Players can obtain crests by completing content of the appropriate level, whether that involves walking around and performing outdoor activities for gear of lower tiers, raids or dungeons with all difficulties for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ dungeons or heroic raid bosses for gear that is used in the endgame. These crests can be exchanged with an upgrader for the item, such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken to upgrade the item in the proper steps and paths.
The new currency system isn't difficult to use, however it brings some modifications to the upgrade process. Once a piece of gear attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it is no longer required to purchase Flightstones. This change is intended to allow players to upgrade their equipment to the highest ilvl possible on all their characters rather than relying solely on seasonal loot.
It's also crucial to choose crests with care, since they only have one use. It is best to put your Whelpling-rank Crests on the top-quality equipment you can locate, and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next set of upgrades. This is especially true for items such as trinkets and rings that take up several slots. The account-wide discount will only be applicable if all slots on the character are filled with top-quality gear.
