Guide To Item Upgrades: The Intermediate Guide To Item Upgrades
Path of Exile Item Upgrades
Item upgrades are a common and essential way to boost the performance of many items in Path of Exile. They can be a great source of extra damage, more AD or even more attaches.
Sometimes, however, upgraded Common and Magic gear is often surpassed by Rare-grade gear due to their higher requirements.
Armor
Armor upgrades can be applied to both armor and weapon items. They increase the effectiveness of the item that they are attached to. Armor upgrades are found in the world of the game and can be purchased from Blacksmiths at any bonfire. They can also be salvaged by using a specialist or higher salvage kits to retrieve upgrade components from items.
The level of an armor's or weapon's upgrade determines the amount of damage it can take on. The upgrade of an armor piece to the highest upgrade level will increase its damage absorption. However, it's important keep in mind that this will raise its weight, requiring it to be heavier than before.
There are a few different types of armor upgrades available in the game and they all have different effects. For instance, certain upgrades will grant the armor a certain number of additional health points, while others make it lighter and stronger. The kind of armor upgrade an item upgrader can get will be indicated by the name of the upgrade as illustrated in the table below.
A few upgrades are magic or a mix of technology and magic which is shown by an "Magic" or "Hybrid" entry in the table below. Additionally, some upgrades require a charge to use, which is indicated by an "Charges" entry in the table below. These charges are either continuously updated or never expire based on the upgrade.
Iron Ore is the cheapest way to improve your armor. You can find it by exploring and looting small loot chests. Titanium is more expensive however, it is available from smelters located in Orgrimmar and Stormwind City. Some upgrades, such as the Reforge and the Hot Potato Books, can only be applied to higher level armor pieces. These upgrades can give a significant increases in stats and are worth the cost.
A piece of armor upgraded to max upgrade level will greatly increase its defense capabilities but the wearer must be aware that putting on weight will drastically reduce its speed and agility. For this reason, it is generally not recommended to upgrade most armor pieces that are higher than +9 because the increase in defense is typically not worth the weight and power costs of the improvements required.
Weapons
Weapon upgrades give players the ability to improve certain aspects of their weapon. Upgrades can boost the accuracy of a rifle, or the damage that shotgun shells do. Some weapons have special upgrades to improve their inherent qualities. Frictionless materials (improves stability, and reduces the possibility of overheating), and Kinetic coils (increases the projectile's velocity for greater damage) are two examples.
The majority of upgrades to weapons require three Power Dices, a different amount of Minerals and Erons and a whetblade for applying. These can be gained by completing Side Quests or killing a certain amount of monsters and bosses.
To upgrade a weapon, equipment set piece, or Whetblade You must go to the NPC [ArmorBoboko. Boboko located in Central Flarine, and pay her an upgrade fee of a specific amount of bars. The more bars you need to complete an upgrade the more advanced the level. The cost of the upgrades will be lower if you have more than one of the relevant upgrade materials.
In Chapter 2: Season 5 the way you upgrade your weapon and sets has changed a bit. Before, you could seek out an Upgrade Bench and pay a certain number of Bars to upgrade your equipment or weapon to an increased quality. You could do this until your weapon or equipment reached its maximum upgrade level at which point the upgrades would be reset.
This is still possible, but it is dependent heavily on RNG. Instead, you're better off going to the stores and purchasing equipment that has low upgrade levels but excellent base scores and stat distributions. These gears have a higher chance of granting you the highest tier advantages and benefits.
The majority of players will make the most of upgrades to weapons they most often use to make sure they are able to level up faster. In addition players, they should also consider upgrading the weapons favored by their teammates to make them more powerful as well. Shepard, for example should upgrade his M92F in order to unlock the Beretta M93R. This will make the weapon more effective when used with biotic specialists like Grunt and Tali.
Jewels
Jewels are utilized in the sockets of armor and weapons, enhancing a stat and providing secondary effects. Jewelry crafting is the process of creating them. You combine gemstones with specific reagents on a jewelry table. The higher the level of the gemstone has, the more powerful its secondary effect. These reagents are available from Treasure Goblins and World Bosses around the world, or through finding Legendary Gear. You can also purchase them from The Jeweler in exchange for Scattered Prisms and gold.
The quality of a jewel can be improved by the Jeweler, with stages that range from Crude to Royal. Based on the tier of the gem, it will provide a different stat boosts when inserted into gear, weapons and jewelry.
All kinds of jewels can be crafted at the Jeweler however, there are some exceptions to this, such as the rare and legendary jewels which require you to be at a high enough level to obtain the privilege of having them. Unlike other upgrade components, jewels are able to be swapped with a jewel of the same type without damaging the original one. However it is only possible to replace the jewels in a piece of equipment only once.
It is normal to use more jewelry for aesthetic reasons. In addition to enhancing performance, the jewels also create an outer layer that is more durable than metal, so repeated friction from pivots won't cause harm as easily.
In addition to the above-mentioned upgrades players can also obtain glyphs for their shields and weapons from a Glyphmaster. They offer a small benefit and are able to be swapped easily, but are not guaranteed to drop as loot. Glyphs can be upgraded like jewelry, at the Jeweler for gold and a Scattered Crystal. Glyphs can also be removed, which returns them to the inventory. Other upgrade item components, such as traits and aegis cannot be swapped out, and can only be retrieved using an Upgrade Extractor or salvaging them using a Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool.
Trinkets
Trinkets are a great way to give your character many small, but beneficial benefits. They can be obtained in the starter areas as loot or personal story rewards from vendors, or by completing road interactions. They can also be crafted by jewelers and later found or purchased from the Trading Post.
The first trinket a player will unlock is the cloak. It gives a small but valuable boost in speed of movement and evasion. After that, they'll be able to get amulets, rings, and necklaces in a similar way to how a player obtains weapons and armor. Each piece of equipment comes with a slot for an upgrade that can be either universal or jewel. Universal upgrades are smaller and can be utilized on any piece of equipment. Jewels cannot be upgraded or replaced and are only compatible with certain trinkets.
These trinkets also grant additional buffs and skills that remain active even when the character is not fighting. This lets the hero perform better when they are not active and also helps make up for a lack of a solid team or any slots from the talent tree that normally are filled with the hero's ideal statistics.
In general, trinket upgrades should prioritize BiS (Best in Slot) items that you aren't likely to replace anytime soon. Next, any items with desirable statistics that aren't as significant as the iLevel of the item to be upgraded. This is especially true if you want to upgrade multiple statistics on an item. It's better to upgrade one important stat instead of two subpar ones.
Jungle players usually upgrade their yellow trinket to a red one at the beginning of the game. Mid and top players, on the other hand they will select either a pink or green ward, depending on the game's matchup. These choices will have a significant impact on the hero's abilities to control maps.
In addition to the items mentioned above, players will also find other trinkets that form of rewards and trophies throughout the game. These can be obtained through completing certain milestones in the story, like finishing a chapter's main quest or killing a certain boss. You can view them by selecting the achievement from the reward section of the hero's menu.
