WoW Upgrades - The item upgrade Upgrader

Upgrades give you an increase in specific statistics. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by 3. Each upgrade also increases a random substat.

The more modernized gear generally has a higher trade value, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or a very high stat variation (like the eth titan weapons). These types of gear get less value from upgrading due to the necessity to roll to get a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of armor or weapons. However, the item used for the upgrade will remain in use for a long time and can't be used again. Upgrades can be applied to Enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To ensure that your equipment is up-to-date it is recommended you visit the upgrader each couple of weeks.

The cost of upgrades will depend on the current level of the gear being upgraded however, they will always be cheaper than buying new equipment from other sources. For example, upgrading a Benthic chest piece to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points while purchasing the same item from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that are used to upgrade weapons tools, armor, and other accessories. They can be bought by players through item upgrader NPCs in exchange for a variety of currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade items is able to be applied to any weapon, tool or armor. The button will display a preview of an item's next upgrade level, when there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrades varies based on the item slot and current item level and the weapon's price is higher than gloves or bracers, for instance. Each step costs 15 Flightstones and a number of crests, with some upgrades having a discount to reduce the cost of the Flightstones or crests that are used. After an item upgrades has been upgraded to a certain amount and is degraded, it can be sold and returned to the upgrader for a lesser amount of the two currency types.

Many locations offer item upgraders, including the main Island and some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade discount and a chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The upgrade discount increases depending on the amount of items being upgraded, and can be increased by requiring players to complete specific achievements or complete quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at beginning, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. Instead the NPCs that can be used to upgrade must be acquired through several methods, which is both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3, the upgrade system has been tweaked a bit, with several new features added. Once a player has upgraded to a certain item level for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same item level, will cost less. This is regardless of whether the items are from an entirely different set of gear.

The discount applies to all accounts. Similarly, the amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is also reduced and is not available until players have reached certain milestones in their achievements.

Crests

Players have a variety of choices when it comes to upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are a currency that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more specialized, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an integral element of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System, which was introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests can only be used on equipment of a particular rank, and that every rank has different requirements for its upgrade path. The simplest and most straightforward upgrade route costs 15 crests while the more complex one requires as many as 20 crests, based on the kind of gear being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by finishing content at the appropriate level, whether that involves walking around and performing outdoor activities for lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons with any difficulty for higher-tier items or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses and dungeons for gear that is used in the endgame. The crests can then be exchanged with an item upgrader like Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to upgrade the item in the proper steps and routes.

Utilizing these new currencies isn't too complicated, but the system will introduce a few modifications to the upgrade process. For instance, once an Item level upgrade reaches the highest upgrade level of any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is intended to allow players to get their equipment up to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters, instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

Another notable modification is that crests have one use, so it's important to make use of them in a responsible manner. It is recommended to use your Whelpling-rank Crests on the best gear you can locate, and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next set of upgrades. This is particularly true for items such as trinkets and rings that fill multiple slots. The discount on the account is only applicable when all the slots on the character are filled with high-quality gear.
