Path of Exile item upgrades (https://fewpal.com/post/546045_https-king-wifi-win-wiki-why-no-one-cares-about-item-upgrades-https-securityhole.html)

Item upgrades are a common and important way to improve the performance of many items in Path of Exile. They can provide extra damage, AD or even affixes.

In most cases, however upgraded Common and Magic gear is beaten out by Rare-grade gear because of their high requirements.

Armor

Armor upgrades can be applied to both weapon and armor items. They improve the effectiveness of the item they are attached to. Armor upgrades are available in the world of the game and can be purchased from Blacksmiths at bonfires. Alternatively, they can also be salvaged from items with upgrade components inside them, using a specialist or more powerful salvage kit.

The level of an armor's or weapon's upgrade determines the amount of damage it can take on. Upgrading a piece of armor to maximum upgrade level will boost the damage it absorbs. It is important to note that this will increase the weight of the armor, which means it must be heavier.

There are several types of armor upgrades that are available in the game and each one has distinct effects. For example, some upgrades will give the armor a certain number of health points while others will make it lighter and stronger. The name of the armor upgrade will tell you the kind of upgrade the item can be given, as illustrated below.

Certain upgrades require magic or a combination of technology and magic, which are identified by the "Magic" and "Hybrids" entries in the table below. Certain upgrades require charges in order to be used. These are indicated as "Charges" entries in the table. These charges are either continuously updated or never expire based on the upgrade.

The cheapest method of upgrading armor is by using Iron Ore, which can be obtained by exploring the environment and looting small loot chests. Titanium is more costly, however, it is available at the smelters of Orgrimmar and Stormwind City. Some upgrades, like the Reforge or the Hot Potato Books can only be applied to armor pieces that are of high-level. These upgrades can give players a significant improvements in stats and are definitely worth the investment.

The player must be aware that upgrading a piece to its maximum upgrade level will increase its defense value. However, it can also affect its agility and speed. It is not recommended to upgrade armor past +9. The defensive boost gained generally isn't worth the weight and power cost of the upgrades.

Weapons

Weapon upgrades allow players the ability to improve certain aspects of their weapon. Upgrades can boost the accuracy of a rifle or the damage that shotgun shells do. Certain weapons come with special upgrades to improve their inherent qualities. They include Frictionless Materials (improves stability and reduces the risk of weapon overheating) and Kinetic Coils (increases the speed of projectiles to cause more damage).

The majority of weapon upgrades require a whetblade, one of three Power Dices and a different amount of Minerals and Erons. These can be obtained by completing Side Quests, killing a certain number of monsters or bosses, or through the Weapon Upgrade NPC located in Central Flarine.

Upgrading a Weapon, Equipment Set piece or Whetblade requires visiting the NPC [Armor] Boboko in Central Flarine and paying her an upgrade fee that is based on a specific number of Bars. The higher the upgrade level, the more bars required to complete it. The cost of upgrades will be less if you have more than one of the upgrade materials.

In Chapter 2: Season 5, the way you upgrade your equipment and weapon sets has changed a bit. Prior to Chapter 2: Season 5 you could upgrade your weapon and equipment by paying a specific amount of Bars. You could continue to do this until you reached the maximum upgrade level for your equipment or weapon, following which upgrades would reset.

You can still do this, but the process is high on RNG and low on agency. It is better to purchase gear with minimal upgrade levels and high base scores and stat distributions. These gears have a greater chance of giving you the most prestigious tier of blessings and perks.

Most players will want to prioritize upgrades to the weapons they are most likely to use to allow them to progress faster. Additionally players, they should think about upgrading the weapons that are most popular with their squadmates to increase their power as well. Shepard, for example should upgrade items his M92F to unlock the Beretta M93R. This will make the weapon more useful when accompanied with biotic specialists such as Grunt and Tali.

Jewels

Jewels can be used to increase the effectiveness of a skill or provide additional effects on weapons and armor. Jewelry crafting is a method of making them, in which you combine the gemstone with specific reagents on a table. The higher the grade of the gemstone, the better the secondary effect. These reagents are available from Treasure Goblins and World Bosses all over the world, or through finding Legendary Gear. You can also buy them from The Jeweler in exchange for Scattered Prisms and gold.

The quality of a gem can be improved at the Jeweler, with stages that range from Crude to Royal. Based on the level of the jewel, it will provide a different stat boosts when it is inserted into gear, weapons and jewelry.

All levels of jewels are crafted at the Jeweler, with the exception of the rare and legendary jewels which require you to be at a sufficient level to be able to get these. Jewels can be replaced with another jewel without damaging the original. You can only replace the gem once within an item of equipment.

It is common to use more jewelry for aesthetic reasons. Apart from improving performance, the jewels create an area that is stronger than metal, so repeated friction from pivots doesn't cause harm as easily.

In addition to the above upgrades additionally, players can obtain glyphs for their shields and weapons from a Glyphmaster. These glyphs give a slight boost and can be freely exchanged, however they are not guaranteed to be available as loot. Glyphs are like jewelry and can be upgraded by the Jeweler to exchange Scattered Crystals and gold. Glyphs can also be removed, which returns them to the inventory. Other upgrade components, like traits and aegis, aren't swappable and can only be recovered using an Upgrade Extractor or salvaging them using a Black Lion Salvage Kit or an Ascended Salvage Tool.

Trinkets

Trinkets can provide your hero with various small, but useful advantages. They can be obtained in the starter areas as loot, personal story rewards, from vendors, and through doing road interactions. They can also be crafted by jewelers, and then found or purchased on the Trading Post.

The first trinkets that a player is able to unlock is the cloak. It grants an unimportant but beneficial boost to movement speed and evasion. The player can then collect rings, amulets and necklaces, in a similar way as they did with weapons and armor. Each piece of equipment has a slot for an upgrade that can be either universal or jewel. Universal upgrades offer fewer benefits and can be put into any type of equipment, while jewelry cannot be changed or upgraded, and is only compatible with specific types of trinkets.

These trinkets also provide additional buffs and skills that remain active when the hero is not fighting. This allows a hero to become more efficient even when not in combat. It can also compensate for the lack of a excellent team or talent tree slots that are normally filled by a hero's top stats.

A good general rule of thumb for trinket upgrades is to prioritize BiS (Best item upgrader-in-Slot) items that you won't be replacing soon, followed by items with desirable stats that are less important than the iLevel of the item upgrader being upgraded. This is especially true if you want to upgrade multiple stats on an item. It is best to upgrade just one crucial stat rather than two suboptimal ones.

At the beginning of the game players who are in the jungle will typically want to upgrade their trinket to a red, while top and middle players will usually opt for either a pink or green ward (depending on the game's matchup). These choices will have a major impact on the hero's abilities to control maps.

In addition to the items mentioned above, players may also find other trinkets throughout the game in the form of awards and trophies. They can be obtained through completing certain milestones within the story. For instance, finishing the main quest of a chapter or beating the boss. You can check them out by clicking on the achievement in the reward section of the hero's menu.
