Upgrades can increase the value of weapons, armors and rings. Upgrades also boost bonuses like crit chance and PvE Damage.

For example, a weapon with the upgrade template that is ending in % will gain an attack damage of 3% each time it upgrades (relative to its previous value).

The cost for upgrading items increases when they reach the item's current level. The cost increases with the item level upgrade's level.

Components

Upgrade components are items that can be inserted into armor, weapons, and trinkets to give an additional stat boost or effect when they're used. These can be obtained by making crafts, buying from vendors or trading with other players or looting. Certain upgrades come with special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can be placed in equipment that has a slot for them. The item must have been at the very least upgraded to blue level for a component to be used. Unlike other mods, upgrade components can only be used once; they can't be used multiple times or replaced by new upgrades. Infusions and Enrichments are kind of upgrade component that can be used to upgrade non-amulet legendary and ascending equipment, as as some non-ascended items. Infusions and enrichments can be recovered by salvaging gear that is ascended or completing an elite task in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.

An upgrade may include a suffix or prefix, modifying the name of the equipment with which it is used (for example "Canthan Armor Insignia" becomes Canthan Armor of Minor Vigor). Some upgrades boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity, allowing players to create stronger versions of that equipment using the smallest amount of Upgrade Crystals than would be required to reach the same upgrade level through normal methods.

A 'boost upgrade' can alter the defense or attack properties of a weapon, or armor. After the player has completed the cutscene and defeated Crazed Mechanist the upgrades can be created at the Portative Forging Station. These upgrades can be obtained by purchasing them in the cash shop or obtaining them from enemies when upgrading other gear.

Each upgrade increases the probability that a higher-tier version of an item will be available at the next reset. This gives players an incentive to upgrade Item their gear even when they're not sure what will be improved following an update.

If a boost upgrade is successful or not, the process may be expensive, and there is a significant risk that the item may become obsolete or even break when it fails; a unsuccessful upgrade could ruin the Upgrade Crystals and Assist Powder, as well as the upgraded item. This is alleviated by the availability cash shop items that increase or even eliminate the chance of failure, and some upgrades that offer the benefit of being reinserted into an item.

Glyphs

Glyphs can be used to upgrade the Paragon Board by placing them in special sockets. Glyphs increase the power of all nodes within their radius, including pre-existing affixes on equipment. Glyphs can be upgraded in a variety of ways. We recommend upgrading them as fast as you can to level 15.

Glyphs, the sole upgrade component that can be removed without restriction and replaced again are the most popular. The only exception is legendary equipment, which requires a Black Lion Salvage Kit to salvage and replace.

Each Glyph has a particular range of values that can enhance a stat by. The value is shown when you select the Glyph in your inventory. You can decide to replace it with a different Glyph with the same rank or higher rank, which will increase the overall value of the Glyph.

Glyphs can be found in the Black Lion Trading Post as part of the Gem Store bundle or purchase them with certain tools that are unlimited in use as well as during Faction Crypt Raids. Every Faction Crypt can drop one of these Glyphs. There are also some rare glyphs that you can find in any of the Faction Crypts.

Leveling

The upgrade system for items allows players to improve the effectiveness of certain items by placing upgraded components inside them. This is known as "upping". Every upgradeable item upgrader kit has an amount, which determines its final upgraded stats. Upgraded items can be upgraded up to a maximum of 385. Each level of an item requires various components, and upgrade costs increase with each level.

Certain upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient can be obtained by completing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be found in the upgrade item tab of a crafting table or obtained from NPCs. Each completed Upgrade Recipe earns several Technology Points. These points can be used for the upgrading of an item. Once enough points are earned you'll be able to claim the upgrade and get its extra bonuses.

When a player upgrades an item, the base item is replaced with a new item of the same kind. The same armor will receive an weapon or shield when upgraded. The new item will have a unique bonus. This could be a disadvantage since the item may be more expensive even if you don't need it.

If the player has enough tokens they can reroll item upgrades. This will cause the item to be exchanged for a brand new one, which will have the level 1 base, and a totally different set of extra bonuses. This is a good idea but it should not be repeated often since it can waste resources.

Certain upgrades can be rerolled several times which increases their value and giving players the ability to alter their equipment. Dolphin's Gift is a good example, as it gives an increase in power if the player repeatedly enters or exits the water. When an item is upgraded the upgrades are applied from the lowest to the highest. The amount of resources required to upgrade an item are based on its rarity rating and upgrade slot count. The cost of upgrading equipment that is not premium is equal to its base value.
