Study of Chinese Learners' Pedagogical Choices in Korean

The DCT, for example, cannot account cultural and individual differences. Additionally the DCT is prone to bias and can lead to overgeneralizations. Therefore, it is important to analyze it carefully before using it for research or assessment purposes.
Despite its limitations, the DCT is a useful tool for investigating the relationship between prosody and information structure in non-native speakers. The ability to manipulate the social variables that are relevant to the manner of speaking in two or more steps can be a benefit. This feature can help researchers to study the role played by prosody in communicating across cultural contexts, which is a major issue in cross-cultural pragmatics.
In the field of linguistics the DCT is now one of the most important tools for analyzing learners' behavior in communication. It can be used to analyze many issues, such as the manner of speaking, turn-taking and the use of lexical terms. It can be used to assess the phonological complexity of learners in their speech.
A recent study employed a DCT to assess EFL students' refusal skills. Participants were given an array of scenarios and asked to select an appropriate response from the choices provided. Metapragmatic Questionnaires (MQs)
This study examined Chinese learners their pragmatic choices when they use Korean. It used a variety of experimental tools such as Discourse Completion Tasks, metapragmatic questions and Refusal Interviews. Participants were 46 CLKs of upper-intermediate proficiency who gave responses to MQs and DCTs. They were also asked for reflections on their evaluations and refusals in RIs. The RIs further revealed that CLKs were aware of their pragmatism in every DCT situation. The RIs were conducted one-to-one basis within two days of participants completing the MQs. A recent study sought to answer this question by using a variety of experimental tools, including DCTs, MQs and RIs. Participants comprised 46 CLKs and 44 CNSs from five Korean Universities. They were asked to perform the DCTs in their native language and to complete the MQs either in their L1 or their L2. Then, they were invited to a RI where they were asked to think about their responses to the DCT situations.
The results showed that CLKs on average, did not follow the patterns of native speakers in more than 40% of their responses. They did so even though they could produce native-like patterns. They were aware of their practical resistance. They attributed their actions to learner-internal factors like their personalities, multilingual identities, and ongoing life histories. They also referred external factors, like relational advantages. For instance, they outlined how their relationships with professors facilitated more relaxed performance in relation to the linguistic and intercultural rules of their university.
However, the interviewees also expressed concerns about the social pressures and consequences that they might face if they flouted the local social norms. They were worried that their native friends might perceive them as "foreigners" and think they were incompetent. This concern was similar in nature to that expressed by Brown (2013) and Ishihara (2009).
These findings suggest that native-speakers' pragmatic norms are not the norm for Korean learners. They may still be useful as a model for official Korean proficiency tests. Future researchers should consider reassessing the applicability of these tests in various contexts and in particular situations. This will help them better understand the effect of different cultural contexts on the behavior of students and classroom interactions of students from L2.
