Upgrades can boost the value of certain numeric stats on armor, weapons and rings. Upgrades can also boost bonuses like Crit chance and damage from PvE.

Components

Upgrade components can be added to weapons, armor and trinkets in order to provide them with a boost in stats or to add an additional effect. They can be obtained through crafting, buying from vendors, trading with other players or looting. Some upgrades also have specific cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can be placed in equipment with a slot for them. The item must be at least upgraded to the blue level for a component to be used. Like other mods, upgrade components can only be used once and cannot be applied repeatedly or replaced with new upgrades. Infusions and Enrichments are a kind of upgrade component that can be used to upgrade non-amulet legendary or Ascended equipment, as well other items that are not ascended. Infusions and enrichments can be retrieved by salvaging gear from the ascended, or completing an elite mission in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.

The boost upgrade may be successful or not, the process may be costly, and there is a high chance that the item could become obsolete or even break if it fails; a failure to upgrade can destroy the Upgrade Crystals and Assist Powder as well as the upgraded item. Each item level requires a different amount of components to reach, and the upgrade costs increase as the item upgrader kit gets upgraded.

Certain upgrades require a specific ingredient to activate. This ingredient is obtained by completing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be purchased from NPCs or found on the upgrade tab of the crafting table. Each Upgrade Recipe that is completed earns some Technology Points. These points can be used to upgrade the item. Once enough points have been earned, the upgrade can be claimed and the additional bonuses will be added to the item.

When the player improves an item it will be replaced with an item that is new. This means that the same armor piece will become the form of a shield or weapon when upgraded. The new item will also have a unique bonus. This can be a downside, as the item can be more expensive even if you do not require it.

Item upgrades can sometimes be rerolled, if the player has enough tokens to do so. This causes the item to be exchanged for a brand new one, with an initial level and a different set of extra bonuses. This is useful for certain items, however it shouldn't be performed frequently, since it can use up a lot of resources.

Certain upgrades can increase their value and allow players to modify their equipment. All items can be upgraded a maximum of five times, with the exception of hero gear that can be upgraded with eight upgrades. Each time you upgrade a piece of equipment, it is at risk of failing. The probability of failure increases when you exceed the maximum number. Failures can result in the item reverting to its initial state and the player having to purchase more materials than if they had stopped upgrading after the maximum amount.

If an item is not upgraded, the experience bar in its growth bar will be reset to zero. The item also loses any bonuses it earned like the chance to crit attack damage, other effects (such as a higher healing rate over time or reloading speed). However, the user can continue to use the weapon or armor following the failure.

When an item is upgraded, the upgrades are applied from lowest to the highest. This means that, when a weapon gains an increase in its crit chance it will be applied before any increase in attack damage. A new attribute known as Slots is now added to the definition of the item and the value is recomputed each time an upgrade is applied.

The amount of resources needed to upgrade an item is dependent on its rarity score and upgrade slot count. The cost of upgrading non-premium equipment is equivalent to the value of the base item. For example an item upgrader that is commonplace could have five upgrades at a cost of. 25600 Technology Points 4x Quality Improvement Chance. Hero grade items are less expensive per upgrade.

Premium items have different requirements for upgrading in comparison to standard equipment. For instance, they may require fewer sowels but more minerals and erons.
