WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by +3. A random extra substat is also increased with each upgrade.

The upgraded gear is usually more useful, unless the Best item upgrade has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or a high stat variance (like Eth Titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the necessity to roll for a perfect model.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by giving the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of armor or weapon. The item used to upgrade the item is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be used to create enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended to visit the upgrader at least once every few weeks, to keep your equipment up-to-date.

The cost of upgrades will be based on the current item level of the item being upgraded however, they will always be less expensive than purchasing new equipment from other sources. For instance, upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points, while buying a similar item from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are useful items that can be used to level up weapons and tools, armor and other accessories. They can be bought by players from NPCs who sell upgrades for items in exchange for a variety of currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade item can be used on any weapon, tool, or armor. The button will show the preview of an item level upgrade's next upgrade level if there are enough materials.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the slot for the item and the current level of the item. For instance, weapons will cost more than bracers, or gloves. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with some upgrades having a discount to lower the cost of Flightstones or the crests used. After an item has been upgraded to a certain degree it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.

Upgraders for items can be found in a variety of locations on the main island and some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade discount and the chance to acquire a new upgrade recipe. The discount on upgrades increases according to the number of items being upgraded, and can be increased by having players complete specific achievements or complete quests.

In contrast to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II, there is no upgrader for items in the beginning of Icewind Dale. Instead, the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades require several methods, which is both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3, a number of new features have been added to the upgrade system. After the player has upgraded to a certain Item level upgrade level for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same level will cost less. This is true regardless of whether the items are from a different set of equipment.

The discount applies to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade items is cut too, but it is only available when certain milestones are reached.

Crests

When upgrading gear in WoW, players have a few choices. Flightstones are a currency that is available to everyone who wants to upgrade. Crests are more specific and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are a crucial part of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System that was introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.

The first thing to note is that crests can only be used on gear of a specific rank, and that every rank has different requirements for upgrading. The simplest and most straightforward upgrade route costs 15 crests while the most complicated may require as many as 20 crests, based on the type of equipment that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by completing content at the appropriate level. This could be by doing outdoor activities or doing dungeons or raids in any difficulty to earn equipment of lower tier or Mythicbosses of raids or dungeons with heroic difficulty to obtain endgame gear. These crests can then be exchanged at an item level upgrade upgrader NPC, like Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to obtain the appropriate upgrade routes and steps.

The new currency system isn't difficult to use, however it will bring some changes to the process of upgrading. When a piece reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it is no longer required to purchase Flightstones. This is to allow players to upgrade their equipment to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters, rather than relying solely on seasonal loot.

Another important change is that crests have one usage and it's crucial to use them properly. For instance, it's a good idea to utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests on the top equipment you have, and then save Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you're planning to create. This is especially applicable to rings and trinkets that take up multiple slots on the character, which can only be eligible to benefit from the discount for all accounts when all slots are full of high-quality equipment.
