They can be purchased by players through item upgrader NPCs in exchange for different currencies, and can be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be applied to any tool, weapon, or armor. The button will show the preview of an item's next level of upgrade, if there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrading is based on the item slot and current item level upgrade (pop over to this site) level and the weapon's price is higher than bracers or gloves, for instance. Each step costs 15 Flightstones and a variety of crests, with certain upgrades offering discounts to lower the cost of the Flightstones or crests used.
