WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give you boosts in specific statistics. Each upgrade increases the level of the item by +3. A random extra substat is also increased with each upgrade.

The upgraded gear typically has a higher trade value regardless of whether it has low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or a very high stat variance (like eth titan weapons). Upgrades are less important for those with lower requirements due to the need to roll an exact version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade gear to a higher Item Level Upgrade level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of armor or weapons. The item used to upgrade the item is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to the enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in every major city, and can be visited at any time to upgrade your equipment. To ensure that your equipment is up-to-date it is recommended you visit the upgrader each couple of weeks.

Upgrades can cost more based on the level of the item, however, they are always less expensive than purchasing new equipment. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest up to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. A similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade weapons, armor, tools and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased by players through NPCs who sell upgrades to item owners for a variety of currencies. They can also find them on random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased, it can be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor using an button, which will show a preview of the item at its next upgrade level in the event that the player has enough materials.

Upgrade costs differ based on the slot of the item and the current item level. For instance weapons are more expensive than gloves, bracers or bracers. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Some upgrades offer a discount on the Flightstones. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain level, it can be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lesser amount of both currency types.

Upgraders for items are available in many places, including the main island and some outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade coupon and a possibility of getting an entirely new recipe. The discount for upgrades increases depending on the amount of items being upgraded. It is also possible to be increased by having players complete some specific achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the start, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. The NPCs who are able to facilitate upgrades are available only through a variety means. This is both a benefit and an issue.

In Season 3 the upgrade system has been modified a bit, and numerous new features added. After a player has upgraded to a certain level of item for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same item level, will cost less. This is true even if those items come from another set of equipment.

The discount is available to all accounts. In the same way, the amount of Harbinger Crests needed for upgrades is also cut and is not available until players have reached certain achievement milestones.

Crests

When upgrading gear in WoW, players have a couple of choices. Flightstones are a currency that is available to everyone who wants to upgrade. Crests are more specific and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are a crucial element of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System introduced in version 10.1. They come in four ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests are only able to be spent on equipment that is of a particular rank, and that each rank has its own requirements for upgrading. The simplest and easiest upgrade items is 15 crests. The most complex upgrade can require up to 20 crests, depending on the kind of equipment being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by working through content at the appropriate level. This could mean engaging in outdoor activities or doing dungeons or raids in all difficulty levels to obtain equipment of lower tier or Mythicbosses for raids, or dungeons with a heroic difficulty for endgame gear. The crests can later be exchanged at an upgrader NPC, such as Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to get the appropriate upgrade pathways and steps.

The new currency system isn't difficult to use, but it brings some modifications to the upgrade process. When a piece has reached the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it no longer requires Flightstones. This is to allow players to upgrade items their equipment up to the highest level possible on all their characters, instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

Another significant change is that crests have one use, so it's important to use them wisely. It's Best item upgrader to use your Whelpling-rank crests on the top-quality equipment that you can find and save Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next set of upgrades. This is especially applicable to rings and trinkets that take up multiple slots on the character, that will be able to benefit from the discount for all accounts when all slots are filled with high-quality equipment.
