5 Laws That ll Help The Double Pushchair Industry
Which Lightweight Double Pushchair Should You Buy?
A compact double stroller with car seat pushchair makes it simple to get around, particularly when you have children of different age groups. They are easy to fold, steer and carry up and down stairs.
This City Mini GT2 features side-by-side seating with plenty of legroom. It also has adjustable reclining, UPF 50+ canopy and windows that peek out. It also comes with a smart frame that expands widthways to accommodate a second seat, and also a compatible car seat(s).
Side-by-Side
Most of the lightweight double pushchairs we tried were side-by-side models. These are best for children who can stand up without assistance, since they lack car seat compatibility. However they do have a few advantages. Thule Urban Glide 2 Double and Baby Trend Sit 'N Stand Double are both great options that provide recline that can be adjusted in both seats, a large canopy, and padded 5-point harnesses. They're also easy to maneuver despite their larger footprint and are great for parents who are worried about fitting through doorways.
The Cybex Duet is a little different due to its clever frame that extends its width to create a second seat, which makes it lighter than the majority of other pushchairs that are side-by-side available. It can be pushed through standard doors and is easy to maneuver on public transport. It can also be used as an jogger which is perfect for those who plan to use it with an infant car seat or baby carrier.
The UPPAbaby Vista v2 double is another excellent lightweight side-by-side double to single buggy. It offers an even greater degree of customization due to a modular frame. The clever design allows the conversion of a double or single buggy by adding two carrycots or child car seats. It can even accommodate twins. It's a fantastic and practical choice for families that are growing, and the UPPAbaby also makes one of the tiniest and most fashionable umbrella strollers around.
Try the egg2, which can be folded down to the size and weight of a compact suitcase. It can be used as a single or double by adding 2 carrycots or baby car seats. Our home testers were impressed with the ease of maneuver, even with a full load of children.
Although they're lightweight double pushchairs that sit side-by-side are not foolproof. If your children are of the same age and stage, they could be fighting over who sits in which position. If they're at different heights it could be that a tandem design might be better for them as it allows them to look at each other.
Tandem
While side-byside models are better suited to siblings of the same ages, tandem lightweight double buggy side by side strollers come with distinct appeals. They can accommodate a larger car seat, and some have convertible seats or an additional carrycot that is located in the middle. They tend to be more spacious and easy to get in and out of, although their baskets are typically smaller than the ones on single buggies. They often have larger canopy as well as peekaboo windows, and even padded leg cushions.
The iCandy Peach tandem is another excellent example of a light tandem that offers great value. The fabric is a little less expensive than our other top-rated tandems, but it still looks and feels great and is easy to use. One of the most striking things about it is its one-handed fold. While it does require practice, Kirstie in our Lab said it's "genius". It's not foldable without the carrycot attached, however, the mechanism for attaching and taking it off it is simple and quick.
Tandem pushchairs that are lightweight generally have tighter turns than side-by-side models but they can be more difficult to drive over bumps and uneven surfaces. They are also a little slower to pick up speed and can be heavier to move, which can result in stress on your back.
A convertible double buggy is another alternative. It is initially a single but you can also add adapters to make it a double. These can include an additional seat or carrycot in front or the kids can be seated side-by-side. Some have the option of including a buggyboard that assists an older child to keep up with younger siblings or brothers.
The Uppababy Vista V2 is a good example of a convertible, as it can also convert into a twin pram by the purchase of additional cocoons (PS59 each) which create a lay-flat area for infants. They can be attached together or placed in a row. You can also use the car seat that came with the pushchair double (sneak a peek at this site) if it is compatible. As they're made with quality materials, these types of buggies with dual-use capabilities can be used for years without displaying much wear, which means they have a an excellent resale value.
Single-to-Double
This compact double buggy was designed for families who love the outdoors and are looking to upgrade from a single-stroller. It can be converted into a jogger by acquiring a kit that includes air-filled tires and all-wheel suspension. It can also withstand rough terrain well and, as a tandem triple, is perfect for twins or children of different ages. It's also a good option for parents who are looking for an elegant design that's as sleek as a single, and is available in a range of fabric colours.
We loved the way that this iCandy model folds into itself with just one hand, making it very easy to master. It's heavier than other single-to-double pushchairs, however our home tester Karolina says it's very mobile even with two toddlers and the carrycot.
The seat can be used as a parent-facing and you can purchase accessories for this stroller like the Roma Gemini carrycots (PS100 each), which are ideal for infants. The seats are comfortable for toddlers and come with good headrests and lumbar support. And there are many options for reclining and recline, with the front seat being adjustable to different positions, and the rear seat offering the option of recline.
This kind of buggy has the biggest disadvantage of being a bit wider than the side-by-side doubles. This makes it difficult to navigate through doorways and it isn't easy to maneuver up and down kerbs. However the suspension and wheels are generally able to perform well in dealing with pavements and the fact that they're generally lighter than the side-by-sides means you can still have a decent amount of storage space. It's important to keep in mind that strollers of this type aren't as good at navigating narrow aisles in supermarkets and can struggle to handle a lot of shopping. Although it's much easier to turn the stroller on a narrow curved path, it can be a problem. Some are more easy to turn than other models, like the Thule Urban Glide 2 Double or Baby Trend Sit N' Stand Double.
Convertible
The great thing about convertible double pushchairs is the ability to adapt to changing family needs. Often, they start as single buggies, and come with adapters that allow you to include a second child's seat or a carrycot (in some instances) the car seat to the frame. Some can be converted to a single when your older child starts to walk or wants to ride buggyboards.
One of the most lightweight double strollers on our list, this fashionable tri-fold model can carry children as heavy as 40 pounds each and features a convenient basket that can be placed between the seats for storage. The spacious canopy with a peekaboo window, multi-position reclining seats and a front and back suspension for smoother riding on rough terrain were appreciated by testers at home. It also has an easy-to-use cup holder for parents as well as an enormous, easily accessible basket. The backs have tiny pockets, which are only big enough to fit phones and keys.
This high-end, lightweight side-by-side is available in more than 20 models. It also comes with a second chair and carrycot. Its impressive feature set includes a handlebar with a high-profile design for easier steering and a rear and front suspension to smooth rough terrain; a self-standing, compact fold with handy straps for easy schlepping; and seven-inch swing lock front wheels and back wheels that measure 10 inches with suspension to provide a more comfortable ride. The only downside is that you'll need to buy a separate baby carrier or car seat.
This multi-functional tandem is a popular choice from our home testers due to its maneuverability and large shopping basket, which can be accessed with both seats in the parent-facing position. It is easy to maneuver due to its low weight (about the same as a few single pushchairs). The seats are reversible, which means that you can flip them to face either way, and the clever method by which it can attach a second seat or riding board to the rear is highly praised by many. Parents also liked the fact that it could accommodate infant carriers and car seats from various brands, including those which aren't usually fit in other double buggies.
