1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is located on the edge of transmission, above the flywheel ring. This sensor sends a signal via the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU utilizes this information to control the amount of fuel and boost. It also sends an indication to the G5 Tachometer within the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to correlate the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft is TDC and the location of the camshaft so it can trigger spark and injectors accordingly.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error code. This means that the Crank Shaft is not in alignment with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of the possibility of a chain stretch or jumped chain link in the upper timing chain. However, the error code won't be displayed on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

It is a little tricky to test because there are different connector pins, and they all have different functions. The most effective method to test it is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. It should read approximately 1000 ohms when the sensor is operating at its maximum. Look for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay if there are issues with this component.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating at full speed from the highway paytoll, I experienced a big cut in power like the engine is running out of gas or the injectors are not firing any more. In the morning, i removed the spark plugs. Three were soaked with gazoline and the 4th one was dry. I put a piece of tissue over each injector hole and when I turn the engine on without sparks, the three with gazoline jump out. The 4th one remains closed. I tested the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30 and 48/55. I got 0ohm. I think the issue is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car key replacement audi will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it is running fine with the G28 plugged in. However the intermittent misfire issue still occurs at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62), even when it is unplugged, shows a temperature of -49c. 3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump of the g28 gets a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style sensor is the same as the G4 and both are used in the 80 100, 200, UrS and RS2 cars which is why you can easily locate one at a junkyard or at a parts store. Test them out - put your DMM in resistance mode and take measurements between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector end up) and 2 (2nd from left on the black connector's end). They must be infinite Ohms.

5. Tachometer
