Ten Three Wheeled Buggies That Will Actually Improve Your Life
Three Wheeled Buggies
Whether you're looking for a buggy to run with or just a nifty stroller to tackle neighbourhood walks, three wheeled buggies offer great mobility. Their compact design makes it easy to maneuver, even in tight spots.
For a smooth ride, opt for a pram fitted with air-filled tyres and look for models with an swivel wheel that rotates 360 degrees in front. However, they are prone to punctures, so make sure you are prepared with a repair kit.
Frame made of sturdy material
New figures show that three-wheeled buggies, that symbol of the decade that had more money than common sense, are in steep decline. They've been replaced with four-wheelers which can handle a wider range of terrain, while still looking swanky and being easy to push.
The larger the wheels are, the more your buggy will be able to deal with bumpy surfaces and uneven pavements. Having larger wheels both front and back also makes it much easier to maneuver and more stable when walking downhill or on difficult terrain.
MFM reviewer Kath tried this buggy out with a newborn and a 3 wheeled buggy year old and found that it coped well with cobbles, grass, rough pavements, dirt tracks and kerbs. Kath said it felt solid to push and extremely solid on rough terrain. Its tyres (which are inflatable and require occasionally pumping) have suspension built-in which was extremely comfortable for my kids.
The size and shape of the seat is another thing to think about. It should be big enough for your child's comfort. You will also want it to be able to recline to allow them to lie flat. Certain three-wheel buggies have a full lie-flat option while others allow the parent to be facing one.
A great choice for tackling off-road and muddy trails is the Roma Atlas. This buggy is ideal for a single child as early as birth and can be adjusted to accommodate two children as your family grows. It is suitable for toddlers and infants from birth to age 4. It includes a bumper, raincover, an improved 5-point harness, and a large padded seat. Storage options are also great, with a large basket and zip pockets on the hood and a handy pouch on the rear of the seat unit.
Larger wheels
Larger wheels give your buggy greater stability when driving over rough terrain. This is especially beneficial for buggies that are off-road. Additionally, they make it easier to manoeuvre the buggy through tight spaces. Some three-wheeled buggies feature swivel wheels on the front to assist you in navigating tight corners. Others are designed to run and have fixed wheels that lock for increased speed and stability. This is also helpful when you crash into the roots of a tree or stray road, as the front wheel will lift up a bit to prevent you from hitting it.
Many strollers 3 wheels wheel pushchairs feature air-filled tyres. This means they are able to handle many different terrains and are much more flexible than four wheelers. They are also lighter. However, they're susceptible to punctures, so you'll need to have an repair kit, spare tube and pump in your bag.
Our top three-wheelers include the Mountain Buggy Core and Venicci Carbo Lux. Both of these buggies have larger wheels that, according to MFM reviewer Kath, "perform really well on gravel tracks, grass and market town cobbles" and are able to effortlessly go up and down kerbs. They also come with a suspension system that in her words "smoothes out bumps extremely effectively".
Buggies with larger wheels may be quite large, and can be difficult to fit into tight spaces. This can be an issue when you're using it for a jogger or you need to be able to get through doors that are narrow when out and out and about. Many models have compact folding options, which allow you to remove the front wheels and store them in a more compact manner.
Easy to manoeuvre
One of the primary benefits to a three-wheeled buggy is that it can be much easier to maneuver, especially with a child in tow. They are designed to ensure that the front wheels can turn on a dime, and are easy to navigate, making them ideal for terrains that are difficult, such as parks, cobblestones and bumpy roads. dirt tracks.
MFM reviewer Kath tested a 3 Wheel Pushchair wheeler with her newborn and toddler and wrote: "The Terrain was a pleasure to maneuver over tough terrain and the swivel front wheel being especially helpful. I was also awed by the way it handled bumps, particularly when using the brake operated by hand. It was extremely stable when in the downhills or on a rough terrain."
The only drawback to this incredible maneuverability is that the larger wheels of a 3 wheel buggy can sometimes make it difficult to squeeze into tight spaces. This is something you should keep in mind when you live in one of the cities. If this is an issue then a 4-wheeler might be better for you.

Kath who was our MFM reviewer, also loved the space of this buggy. There's an easily accessible, large basket that is surprisingly spacious for a buggy that's this big. There's also a handy pouch on the back of the unit, and 2 smaller mesh pockets underneath the hood, where you can keep your keys and phone.
