Players can upgrade their weapons and equipment by adding new affixes. They can also boost its base stats or add additional benefits. To upgrade an item, the player has to have it in their inventory as well as access to the kiln.

Items with weak bases, such as rings, can be upgraded into more robust bases. Items with strong bases, like the Titans of eth have little change in their stats.

Upgrade components

Upgrade components are items that can be incorporated into weapons, armor, trinkets and gathering tools, giving an added bonus or effect while the equipment is used. They can be bought from vendors, or found as loot by enemies, or gotten from chests and missions. Some upgrades have additional cosmetic effects. Most upgrades require that the equipment be at a certain level before they can be upgraded.

To upgrade the quality of a weapon, armor or other item in the game, players must select it and then click on the Upgrade button in the toolbar. This will display on the right-hand side of the screen a preview of the expected upgrade item stats and the components or materials required for the upgrade.

There are three kinds of universal upgrades (which include gems), prefix upgrades, and suffix upgrade components. Universal upgrades, such as gems, are able to be used on any kind of equipment. They offer a lesser bonus than upgrade components that are subject to a type restriction. Infusions are jewels that are only available in equipment that is legendary or ascended. They provide the same bonuses as jewels, but cannot be used in any other equipment. Suffix upgrades can be added to gathering tools. They will add the suffix to the end of the item's name. For example, adding the suffix Glyph could transform a staff wrapping of Minor Vigor into a Canthan staff wrapping of Minor Vigor.

If a player upgrades a gathering tool, and replaces the glyphs with a different one, the old one will be returned to their inventory. If you replace any other upgrade component with a glyph, it will be destroyed, except for inscriptions, which can be freely swapped.

Leveling

Path of Exile's upgrade system differs from previous versions in several fundamental ways. Gear is now classified into tracks, and each item can be upgraded so many times before it's "leveled out." The upgrade costs increase with each level, however the materials required for upgrades do not. This lets players focus their efforts on a couple of key items and maximize their impact, rather than spreading out the upgrade costs across multiple items.

If an item is completed in this way, it is capable of receiving an upgrade set of components, as well as an increase in the probability that the upgrade will succeed. This bonus is referred to as the Artisan's Power and it will reset to zero in the event of failure, or increases when the upgrade succeeds.

When a piece is upgraded to its highest level, it can receive affixes to boost its attributes. The number of affixes that are available depends on the type of item it is. If an item does not reach its max level the NPC will offer the player the option to transfer it to a different character and then re-infuse it with an upgrade set that is different. This process takes up to two hours and costs the same amount of materials however it will have less chance of success.

To determine the height of a structure, engineers will use a level to compare the measurement to an established reference point like a benchmark, or the ground's elevation. This method is known as a "level loop." It involves taking readings with the level, backsighting rod, and then turning the level to take the foresighting rod reading. This method ensures that buildings are constructed to a high degree of precision and security.

Rerolling

Rerolling is the process of changing the upgrade components of an item upgrader kit. It is an important aspect of the game and can dramatically enhance an item's strength, damage, or other attributes. This can be done through the item menu or by pressing the Reroll button of an upgraded item. Rerolling can be expensive and should only be done in the rarest of circumstances.

The game allows players to recycle upgraded items, which are used to obtain Reroll tokens. These tokens can be used to upgrade the original item or a similar Item upgrader Mod. Recyclable items come with an indicator of the level which shows how much of the upgrade gauge has been filled. The amount of level that has been filled is contingent on the rarity and upgrade cost of the item.

In the past, some upgrade items had priority affixes that made them easier to roll for than other. This meant that you'd get the stats that mattered most to your build often than others. These included things like the armor's total armor, thorns, and duration reduction statistics that were controlled or the weapon's bonus attack speed and critical strike chance.

This was changed with the recent patch. Priority affixes have been removed, and all upgrades have the same chance of rolling for each stat. This can be either good or bad, depending on what you're looking for and want from your equipment.

Each upgraded item can also have a unique bonus that increases the item's power by a fixed percentage or flat value. These bonuses are added to the regular affixes. The more you improve an item, the greater chances of obtaining a unique bonus.

The game also has a number sets that grant the player a bonus if three or four upgraded items from the set are placed on an Best item upgrader. This is a good method of giving an individual character more power without spending a ton of money.

Many players are known to reroll their weapons and equipment, especially in the early stages. This is because rerolling can offer a quicker path to a powerful character, allowing them to reach higher levels and progress in the game faster.

Sets

To determine if an item is worth upgrading, players must click the Upgrade button on the screen for their character. The attributes of the item will be displayed as well as any necessary items. For example, the No-mouth Face will require 1.1K Scrap Materials, 250 Enchanted Dust and 5 Glowing Shards to upgrade. Players can also check the upgrade requirements for specific items at the Cyrodiil Golden vendor or Leaderboard.

Upgrades to gold are recommended for weapons that have spells or glyphs that damage weapons. This will result in a significant increase in their performance. Weapons with an upgraded appearance will benefit from this upgrade because its defense will increase as it goes from purple to gold.
