The upgrade of an item can be used to improve the stats of a particular item. Depending on the upgrade type, it may boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity, and also boost other stats.

The process of upgrading equipment in The War Within requires a certain number of Flightstones and Crests, and each item comes with an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next item by a certain amount.

Item Level

When an item gets upgraded, its stats are increased in value. The value is the sum of all of an item's upgraded perks (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrades to items can be costly, depending on the upgrader you choose and the kind of upgrade you decide to perform. This is due to the variety of perks that must be altered to upgrade an item.

It can also be used as a gating requirement when waiting for dungeons, raids and scenarios. It can also be used as a gating requirement when waiting to queue for dungeons and raids and scenarios, and to limit the amount of PvP gear that a player can wear (since PvP is restricted to a lower level). The average level of the item can be found in the character sheet.

When deciding whether to purchase or sell gear players can evaluate the level of an item. It's a measure of the damage and its quality. The level of an item can be used to evaluate items when looking at a vendor's inventory.

This means that items dropped at higher levels will have higher ilvl than those from lower-level instances.

Item Stats

Item stats can make or break an item for players. The game utilizes them in various ways to encourage players not to limit themselves to a single weapon and to encourage players to explore other weapons. The base stats on a weapon are enhanced by the weapon's stat modifications, which are themselves increased by the player's skill.

Upgrades to an item may increase the stats of an item. The rarity of an item determines the upgrade cost. A white or grey item for instance, can only be upgraded one time however, items with rare tiers can be upgraded multiple times at higher costs.

Affixes are a different method to alter the stats of an item. They are stat boosts that can be added by the player to an item upgrading. Affixes are used to give items additional damage or other special abilities (such as reviving dead or reducing cooling downs) or to distinguish them by naming them.

All affixes can be re-rolled at the moment by selecting them in the upgrade menu pressing the green button. This process will cost the player a specific amount of gold as well as items which can be used to add to the upgrade gauge in the same manner as the other options for rerolling.

In addition to the possibility of rerolling affixes, players may select which of the available stats to keep on an item after it is upgraded. The stat ranges are determined by the item's level. However, all items will have at least one stat in that range unless they are an exclusive item, or the item is a God Roll from a boss in a raid.

Another thing that could be changed is the possibility to upgrade equipment without having to reroll the affixes, or choose which stats to boost. As with base equipment, it would have to be done per item and the item comparison interface will not show all possible stats at once.

Item Luck

A player's Luck stat stacks up to increase the chances of finding items and the properties that are spawned from loot drops and the intensity of those properties. It does not, however directly impact damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives players an opportunity to get better equipment earlier in the game. This is especially advantageous in early game runs because players tend to put defenses and weapon scaling over raw damage gains.

Luck can also increase the likelihood of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith’s overall chances of upgrading that increase with each level of the item. It is also possible to be enhanced by using anti-materials, such as the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

Armor, shields and weapons can be created or spawned using the Luck property, with an initial value of 40. These items can be improved by using golden ingots or spined leather (depending on their material type) to add another 40 luck or to boost the Luck of an item up to 140.

Certain items, like the Hollow-infused weapon, can also be equipped to increase the damage of any skill that causes damage by 5%. These items are available at the store, or they can be made using the correct ingredients.

Item Failure

Upgrades to items are expensive and not every upgrade will be successful. However, there are some cash shop items which allow players to increase their success rate or prevent them from losing an item in the event that the upgrade is unsuccessful.

The rate of success of an upgrade is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage is the probability of successfully upgrading the item. This can be increased with Additional Materials or Special materials. There are limitations on how much success rates can be increased and the chance of a failed upgrade cannot be greater than 100%..

The Luck of an item can also influence the effectiveness of an upgrade. Each item has an initial success rate of 25% and every item that has Luck increases the chance of success by 5percent.

It is important to note that upgrade items (read) are rendered above the inventory items therefore enchantment glints and other effects can be obscured by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
