Upgrades can boost the value of weapons, armors and rings. Upgrades also boost bonuses like Crit chance and damage from PvE.

Components

Upgrade components can be incorporated into trinkets, armor, and weapons in order to give them a stat boost or to add an additional effect. They can be acquired through crafting, buying from vendors trading, or looting. Certain upgrades also come with specific cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can only be used on devices that have slots. The item must be at least upgraded to a blue level before a component can be applied. A suffix or prefix can be added to an upgrade, thereby changing the name of the item it's used on (for instance, 'Canthan Armor Insignia',' changes to Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Certain upgrades boost the Mark Level or Rarity of an item upgrade, allowing players create stronger versions with fewer Upgrade crystals than they require to achieve the same level using standard methods.

A 'boost upgrade' can modify the attack or defense characteristics of a weapon or armor. These upgrades can be crafted from the Portative Forging Station once the player has completed the cutscene, and defeats the Crazed Mechanic. They can be dropped by enemies when upgrading other gear or purchasing them in the cash shop for 500 upgrade crystals per.

Each upgrade increases the chance that a better-quality version of the item will be available at the next reset. This gives the player some incentive to keep upgrading their gear even if they're uncertain of how much they'll improve after a future reset.

If a boost upgrade is successful or not, the process can be costly and there is a substantial possibility that the item will be obsolete or even break when it fails. A unsuccessful upgrade could cause the destruction of Upgrade Crystals and Assist Powder as well as the upgraded item. Glyphs

In the endgame you'll find that the most effective way to upgrade your equipment is to use Glyphs. These are the only upgrade component that can be upgraded to level 15 and offer an enormous boost to your power on the Paragon Board.

Most of the upgrades in the game can be replaced but Glyphs are the only upgrade component that can be removed and re-placed without restriction. Only legendary equipment can be salvaged and re-placed with the aid of a Black Lion Salvage Kit.

The value of each Glyph is displayed when you select it in your inventory. You can replace it with an Glyph that is the same or higher rank to increase the value of the Glyph.

Glyphs are available in the Black Lion Trading Post as part of the Gem Store bundle or purchase them with certain tools that are unlimited in use, and during Faction Crypt Raids. Each Faction Crypt could drop one of these Glyphs. There are also some rare glyphs you can find in any of the Faction Crypts.

Once you have gotten the desired Glyphs you will require them to be placed on your equipment. Leveling

The item upgrading system allows players to increase the effectiveness of certain items by placing upgraded components in them. This is referred to as "upping". Each upgradeable item has a level that determines its final upgraded stats. Upgraded items are able to be leveled up to a maximum of ilvl 385. Each item level requires different components, and the cost of upgrading increase with each level.

Certain upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient is obtained from the completion of Upgrade Recipes. These points can be used to the upgrading of an item. When enough points have been earned you will be able to claim your upgrade and receive its additional bonuses.

When an item is upgraded by a player to a higher level, the original item is replaced by a new item of the same kind. The same armor can be transformed into a weapon or a shield when upgraded. The new item also comes with its own set bonus. This could be a drawback, as it can cause the item to become more expensive if you do not require it.

If the player has enough tokens they can roll item upgrades. This causes the item to be exchanged for a new one, with an initial level and a totally different set of bonuses. This is useful for some items, but it's not something that should be done regularly, as it can waste a lot of resources.

Certain upgrades can be rerolled several times which increases their value and allowing the player to customize their gear.
