Upgrades can increase the value of armors, weapons and rings. They also boost extra bonuses, such as crit chance and PvE damage.

For instance, a weapon with the upgrade template ending in % will suffer an attack damage of 3% each time it upgrades (relative to its previous value).

Components

Upgrade components are items that can be inserted into armor, weapons, and trinkets to give a stat bonus or extra impact while they're being used. They can be obtained through making crafts, buying from vendors or trading with other players, or looting. Some upgrades can also be accompanied by special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can be inserted into equipment that has a slot for them. The item must be at a minimum upgraded to blue level to allow a component to be applied. Like other mods, upgrade components can only be used once and cannot be applied repeatedly or replaced with new upgrades. Infusions and Enrichments are a type of upgrade component that is used to upgrade non-amulet legendary or ascending equipment, as other items that are not ascended. Infusions and enrichments can be recovered by salvaging gear from the ascended, or completing an elite task in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.

A prefix or suffix may be added to an upgrade, thereby changing the name of the item it's applied to (for instance, 'Canthan Armor Insignia,' becomes Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Certain upgrades can increase the Mark Level or Rarity of an item, allowing players to create stronger versions using the smallest amount of upgrade item crystals than they require to reach the same level with normal methods.

A 'boost upgrade' can modify the attack or defense properties of a weapon, or armor. After the player has completed the cutscene and defeated the Crazed Mechanist These upgrades can be crafted at the Portative Forging Station. These upgrades can be obtained by purchasing them from the cash shop or by collecting them from enemies when upgrading other gear.

Each upgrade increases the probability that a higher-tier version of the item will be dropped during the next reset. This gives the player some incentive to keep improving their equipment even if they're uncertain of how much they'll increase after a future reset.

The process of upgrading an item can be costly and it's possible that the item will become obsolete or even break when the upgrade is unsuccessful. Upgrade Crystals and assist powder are also destroyed when the upgrade fails. This is reduced by the availability of cash shop items that double or even eliminate the chance of failure, as well as a few upgrades that give the benefit of being reinserted into an item.

Glyphs

Glyphs can be used to enhance the Paragon Board by placing them in sockets with special functions. Glyphs increase the power of nodes within a radius, including any existing affixes. Glyphs are upgraded in many ways. We recommend upgrading them as quickly as possible to level 15.

In the endgame you'll often discover that the best way to improve your equipment is to use Glyphs. These are the only upgrade components that can be upgraded up to level 15 and offer a significant boost to your power on the Paragon Board.

Most of the upgrades in the game can be replaced however Glyphs are the one upgrade component that can be removed and put back in place without any restrictions. The only exception is legendary equipment that requires the use of a Black Lion Salvage Kit to salvage and replace.

The value of each Glyph is displayed when you select it in your inventory. You can decide to replace it with another Glyph of the same rank, or a higher rank, which will boost the overall value of the Glyph.

There are Glyphs in the Black Lion Trading Post, as part of the Gem Store purchase or bundle with certain tools for gathering unlimited use and also through Faction Crypt raids. Each Faction Crypt will drop one of these Glyphs. There are some rare glyphs you can find in any of the Faction Crypts.

Once you have the desired Glyphs then you have to attach them to your equipment. Each Glyph unlocks a unique bonus that will boost a particular set of stat nodes within a radius around the Glyph. Based on the Glyph it could be +40 to one of your primary stats, or +25 to two of your secondary stats.

Glyphs will boost all nodes that are connected to them, therefore it is Best item upgrader to place Glyphs in the most important locations on the Graph. This will increase the impact. Druids, for instance, should place their Glyphs close to their primary damage nodes. They might also consider placing them near their most critical damage nodes.

Leveling

The item upgrading system allows players to increase the stats of specific items by putting upgraded components inside them. This is known as "upping". Once enough points are earned you will be able to claim the upgrade and receive its additional bonuses.

When the player upgrades an item it is replaced with a different item of the same kind. This means that the same piece of armor will be transformed into the form of a shield or weapon when upgraded. The new item will also have its own set bonus. This could be a drawback in that it could make the item more expensive, even if you don't require it.

Item upgrades can sometimes be rerolled, if the player has enough tokens in order to do this. The item will be replaced with a brand new one that has a level 1 basis and totally different bonuses. This is useful for some items, but it shouldn't be done regularly, as it could waste a lot of resources.

Some upgrades can be rerolled multiple times, increasing their value and allowing the player to customize their gear. Requirements

Item upgrading allows players to boost the level of their equippable equipment--armor, weapons, and trinkets that are above ilvl 385 by providing the appropriate currency and items to an item upgrader NPC. Upgrades to armor set pieces also increase the defense base of the item, and upgrading weapons will increase the damage base and required strength and dexterity to meet the upgraded equipment's requirements.

Each item can be upgraded a maximum of five times, except for hero gear, which can be upgraded up to eight times. Every each time you upgrade an item it has the chance to fail. The failure rate increases the more you go beyond the maximum amount of upgrades. Failures will result in the item returning to its original condition, which requires the player to purchase more items than if they stopped upgrading after the maximum number.

If an item isn't upgraded the experience bar on its growth bar will reset to zero. The item also loses any bonuses it earned like chances to be crit, attack damage, or additional effects (such as increased heal over time or reloading speed). However, the player can continue to use the weapon or armor following the failure.

When an item is upgraded the upgrades are applied from the lowest to the highest. This means that, should a weapon gain an increase in its crit chance the increase is applied prior to any increase in attack damage. A new attribute called Slots is now added to the item definition and the value is recomputed each time an upgrade is applied.

The amount of resources required to upgrade an item are determined by its rarity rating and upgrade slot count. The upgrade cost for non-premium items is the same as the base value of the upgrade. For instance, a standard equipment item could have five upgrades, each costing 25600 Technology Points 4x Quality Improvement Opportunity. Hero grade items are less expensive per upgrade.

Premium items have different upgrade requirements as compared to standard equipment, for instance, they may require fewer sowels but more minerals and erons.
