Upgrades can boost the value of armors, weapons and rings. Upgrades can also boost bonuses like crit chance and PvE Damage.

For instance, a weapon with the upgrade template that ends in % will suffer 3damage to attack each time it is upgraded (relative to its previous value).

The cost of upgrading an item is determined by the item's level. The cost increases as the item's level increases.

Components

Upgrade components can be added to trinkets, weapons and armor to give them a boost in stats or an extra effect. They can be acquired through crafting, buying from vendors trading or looting. Certain upgrades have unique cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can be inserted into any equipment with a slot for them. The item level upgrade must be at a minimum upgraded to blue level to allow a component to be inserted. Like other mods, upgrade components can only be used once and can't be used multiple times or replaced with upgrades. Infusions and Enrichments are type of upgrade component used to upgrade non-amulet legendary and ascended equipment, as well other items that are not ascended. Infusions and enrichments are recovered by salvaging gear from the ascended, or completing an elite mission in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.

An upgrade could include a suffix or prefix that alters the name of the equipment to which it is applied (for instance 'Canthan Armor Insignia' becomes Canthan Armor of Minor Vigor). Certain upgrades boost the Mark Level or Rarity of an item, allowing players to create stronger versions using less upgrade crystals than they require to reach the same level using standard methods.

A 'boost upgrade' can modify the attack or defense attributes of a weapon or armor. These upgrades are available to be made using the Portative Forging Station once the player completes the cutscene and defeats the Crazed Mechanic. They can be dropped by enemies while upgrading other gear or buying them from the cash store for 500 upgrade crystals each.

Each upgrade increases the likelihood that a better-quality version of the item will be dropped at the next reset. This gives the player some incentive to keep improving their equipment, even if they're unsure of how much they'll improve after a future reset.

The process of upgrading an item could be expensive and it's possible that the item will be obsolete, or even break, if the upgrade fails. Upgrade Crystals and assist powder are also destroyed when the upgrade fails. This is alleviated by the availability cash shop items to double or even eliminate chances of failure, as well as a few upgrades that give the benefit of being reinserted into an item.

Glyphs

Glyphs can be used to upgrade the Paragon Board by placing them in sockets with special functions. Glyphs increase the effectiveness of all nodes in a radius around them and include pre-existing affixes to equipment. Glyphs can be upgraded in a variety of ways. We suggest upgrading them as soon as you can to level 15.

It is commonplace to see in the endgame that putting Glyphs is the most effective way to upgrade item your gear. They are the only upgrade component that can be upgraded straight to level 15 and offer significant boosts to your power and radius on the Paragon Board, enabling you to get higher nodes more quickly.

The majority of upgrades in the game can be replaced however Glyphs are the one upgrade component that can be removed and replaced without any restrictions. The only exception is legendary equipment that requires the use of a Black Lion Salvage Kit to salvage and replace.

The value of each Glyph is displayed when you select it in your inventory. You can replace it with another Glyph that is the same or higher rank to boost the value of the Glyph.

Glyphs can be found in the Black Lion Trading Post as part of a Gem Store bundle or purchase the glyphs with certain tools that allow unlimited use, and during Faction Crypt Raids. Each Faction Crypt has the possibility of dropping one of the various Glyphs, and there are also a few rare Glyphs that can be obtained as drops from any of the four Faction Crypts.

Once you have the desired Glyphs You will need to place them on your gear. Each Glyph will unlock a unique bonus that will boost the stats of a specific set of nodes in the vicinity of the Glyph. It can be +40 for one of your primary stats, or +25 for two of your secondary stats based on the Glyph.

Utilizing the Glyph can boost all nodes that are connected to it, and it is recommended to position your Glyphs near key nodes on the Graph to maximise the impact. Druids, for example should position their Glyphs close to their primary damage nodes. They may also want to consider placing them near their most critical damage nodes.

Leveling

The item upgrading system lets players increase the performance of certain items by placing upgraded components inside them. This is also known as "upping". Each upgradeable item comes with a level, which determines its final upgraded stats. Upgraded items can be leveled up to a maximum level of ilvl 385. Each level of an item requires a different amount of components to reach and the cost of upgrading increase as the item gets leveled up.

Certain upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient is obtained by making Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be purchased from NPCs or on the upgrade tab of a crafting table. Each Upgrade Recipe that is completed earns some Technology Points. These points can be used to level up the item, and once enough are earned, the upgrade can be claimed and its additional bonuses will be added to the item.

When the player upgrade an item, the base item is replaced by the new item. This means that the same armor piece will get the form of a shield or weapon when upgraded. The new item will come with a bonus of its own. This could be a problem because it can cause the item to become more expensive if you do not require it.

Item upgrades can sometimes be rerolled, if the player has enough tokens to be able to do this. The item will be replaced with a brand new one that has a level 1 basis and completely different bonuses. All items can be upgraded up to five times, except for hero gear, which can be upgraded eight times. Each time you upgrade an item it has the chance to fail. The rate of failure increases as you exceed the maximum amount of upgrades. Failures can cause the item to revert to its original condition, which requires the user to pay more for materials than they would had they stopped upgrading at the highest number of upgrades.

If an item isn't upgraded the experience bar on its growth bar will be reset to zero. The item also loses any bonuses it gained, such as crit chance attack damage, additional effects (such as increased heal over time or reloading speed). However, the player may continue to use the weapon or armor following the failure.

If an item is upgraded, the upgrades are applied in order from lowest to highest. This means that when a weapon gains an increase in the chance of crit the increase is applied prior to any increase in attack damage. Slots is a new attribute that was added to item definitions. The value is calculated every time an upgrade occurs.

The amount of resources needed to upgrade an item are based on its rarity rating and upgrade slot count. The cost of upgrading non-premium products is equal to the base value of the upgrade--for instance, a standard equipment item could have five upgrades, each costing 25600 Technology Points, 4x Quality Improvement Chance.
