Path of Exile Item Upgrading
Item upgrading allows players to improve their weapons and gear with new affixes, boosting its stats base or giving additional benefits. To upgrade an item, a player has to have it in their inventory and have access to the kiln.
Items with weak bases, like rings can be upgraded to more robust bases. Items with bases that are strong, such as the Titans of eth have little changes in their stats.
Upgrade components
Upgrade components can be added to weapons, armors trinkets, weapons, and gathering tools. They can be used as an attribute benefit, or extra effect, while the equipment is in use. They can be purchased from vendors, or found in loot, thrown away by enemies or as rewards from missions or chests. Some upgrades have additional cosmetic effects. Most upgrades require that the equipment be at a certain level to upgrade.
To upgrade an armor, weapon or other Best item upgrader in the game, players must select it and then click the Upgrade button on the toolbar. This will display on the right-hand side of the screen a preview showing the expected upgrade stats and the necessary component or materials.
There are three types of upgrade components: universal upgrades, prefix upgrades and suffix upgrades. Leveling
The upgrade system in Path of Exile has some significant differences from earlier versions. Gear is now categorized in tracks and each item can only be upgraded a certain number of times before it's "leveled out." The upgrade costs increase with each level, but the materials required do not. This lets players focus their efforts on a couple of key items and maximize their impact, instead of spreading cost of upgrades across several pieces.
Once an item has been leveled out, it will be eligible for an upgrade set of components, and an increase in the likelihood that the upgrade will succeed. This bonus is known as the Artisan's Energy. It resets at 0 if the upgrade fails or increases when the upgrade succeeds.
When a piece is upgraded to its highest level, it can receive the affixes needed to enhance its abilities. The number of affixes available is determined by the item's type. For example an uncommon or exclusive weapon with a standard base will have only two affixes. A legend armor will have eight affixes.
Each upgrade step will require an amount of Flightstones and crests, depending on the item's current level and the slot it's in. In general, weapons will require more Flightstones to upgrade than other kinds of equipment.
If an item is not able to get to its maximum level, the NPC will give players the option to transfer it to a different person and then re-infuse the item upgrader mod with another set of upgrades. This process takes up to two hours and costs the same amount of materials but will have less chance of success.
