Upgrades increase the value of certain numeric stats on armor, weapons and rings. Upgrades also increase bonuses such as crit chance and PvE Damage.

For example, a weapon with the upgrade template that ends in % will suffer 3damage to attack each time it is upgraded (relative to its previous value).

Item upgrading costs crests and the item's current level. The cost rises with item's level.

Components

Upgrade components can be incorporated into trinkets, weapons and armor to provide them with a boost in stats or an extra effect. They can be obtained through crafting, buying from vendors, trading with other players or looting. Some upgrades have special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can be inserted into equipment that has a slot to accommodate them. The item must have been at least upgraded to the blue level for a component to be inserted. Unlike other mods, upgrade components can only be used once and cannot be applied repeatedly or replaced with new upgrades. Infusions and Enrichments are a type of upgrade component used to upgrade non-amulet legendary and ascending equipment, as other items that are not ascended. Infusions and Enrichments can be obtained by salvaging equipment that is ascended or by completing a mission within the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns.

A prefix or suffix may be added to an upgrade, changing the name of the item it is used on (for instance, 'Canthan Armor Insignia',' changes to Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Some upgrades increase the Mark Level or Rarity of an item, allowing players create stronger versions with less upgrade crystals than they require to achieve the same level using normal methods.

A 'boost upgrade' can alter the defense or attack attributes of a weapon or armor. Once the player has completed the cutscene and defeated the Crazed Mechanist the upgrades can be crafted at the Portative Forging Station. They can also be dropped by enemies while upgrading other gear or by buying them from the cash shop for 500 upgrade crystals each.

The player can have a maximum of five boost upgrades at a time; each upgrade increases the chance that a higher-tier version of the item will drop in the next reset. This gives players a reason to upgrade their equipment even when they're not sure what will be improved following the reset.

The process of upgrading an item could be costly and it's possible that the item will be obsolete or even break when the upgrade fails. Upgrade Crystals and assist powder are also destroyed when the upgrade fails. This is reduced by the availability of cash shop items to double or even eliminate the possibility of failure, as well as some upgrades that provide an additional benefit when they are inserted into an item.

Glyphs

Glyphs are upgrade parts which can be put in special sockets on the Paragon Board. Glyphs increase the power of all nodes within the area around them, including pre-existing affixes on equipment. Glyphs can be upgraded various ways, and we recommend upgrading them to 15 levels as soon as you can.

You'll often see in the final game that placing Glyphs is the best method to upgrade your equipment. These are the only upgrade components that can be upgraded up to level 15 and give an enormous boost to your power on the Paragon Board.

Glyphs, the only upgrade component which can be removed without restriction and replaced with no restrictions, are the most common. Only legendary equipment can be salvaged and re-placed using a Black Lion Salvage Kit.

Each Glyph has a specific range of values it can improve a stat by. The value is shown when you choose the Glyph in your inventory. You can choose to replace it with a Glyph with the same rank or a higher rank, which will increase the overall value of the glyph.

Glyphs can be found in the Black Lion Trading Post as part of an Gem Store bundle or purchase the glyphs with certain tools that allow unlimited use, and during Faction Crypt Raids. Each Faction Crypt has the chance of dropping one of the various Glyphs and there are some rare Glyphs that can be found in the form of drops from any of the four Faction Crypts.

Once you have gotten the desired Glyphs you will require them to be put on your gear. Each Glyph unlocks a unique bonus that will boost the stats of a particular set of nodes in a radius surrounding the Glyph. Depending on the Glyph the bonus will be +40 to one of your primary stats or +25 to two of your secondary stats.

Using a Glyph will boost all the nodes connected to it, and it is recommended to position your Glyphs near key nodes on the Graph to maximize the impact. Druids, for example should position their Glyphs close to their primary damage nodes. They may also consider placing them near their critical damage nodes.

Leveling

The item upgrading (from King Bookmark) system allows players to increase the performance of specific items by putting upgraded components in them. This is known as "upping". Each upgradeable item is assigned an amount that determines the final statistics. Upgraded items can be leveled up to a maximum level of 385. Each level of item level upgrade requires different components, and the cost of upgrading increase with each level.

Some upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient can be obtained by finishing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be bought from NPCs, or on the upgrade tab of the crafting table. Each Upgrade Recipe that is completed yields a certain number of Technology points. These points can be used for upgrading an item. When enough points have been earned you will be able to claim your upgrade and receive its additional bonuses.

When an individual player upgrade a piece of equipment the original item upgrader mod will be replaced with a new item. This means that the same armor piece will get a weapon or shield when upgraded. The new item comes with its own bonus. This could be a drawback, as the item can increase in price even if you do not need it.

If the player has enough tokens they can roll item upgrades. This causes the item to be exchanged for a brand new one, which will come with an initial level and a totally different set of bonus bonuses. This is useful for certain items, however it's not something that should be performed frequently, since it can waste a lot of resources.

Some upgrades can increase their value and allow players to modify their equipment. Dolphin's Gift is a good example, since it grants buffs when the player continuously enters or exits water. This item can be upgraded many times by increasing the maximum roll every time by 10 increments. This item is extremely important in PvP. A well-rolled version could be worth as much as 50x the value of its non-upgraded counterpart.

Requirements

Item upgrading allows players to increase the quality of their equippable gear--armor, weapons and trinkets that are above ilvl 385 by offering the appropriate currency and items to an item upgrader NPC. Upgrading armor set pieces will also boost the defense base of that piece, while upgrading weapon equipment will increase the damage base and the strength and dexterity required to match the requirements of the upgraded equipment.

Each item can be upgraded a maximum of five times, with the exception of hero gear which can have eight upgrades. Each time you upgrade an object it has a chance of failing. The failure rate increases as you go over the maximum number. Failures will result in the item returning to its original condition, which requires the player to purchase more materials than if they had stopped upgrading after the maximum number.

If an item is not upgraded the experience bar in its growth bar will reset to zero. The item also loses any bonuses it gained, such as crit chance attack damage, other effects (such as a higher healing rate over time or the speed of reloading). However, the player can still continue to use the weapon or armor following the failure.

When an item is upgraded the upgrades are applied from lowest to highest. This means that if a weapon gains a crit chance increase it will be applied before any attack damage increases. A new attribute called Slots has been added to the definition of the item and the value is calculated every time an upgrade is made.

The amount of resources required to upgrade an item are dependent on its rarity score and upgrade slot count. The upgrade cost for non-premium products is equal to the base value of the upgrade--for instance, a typical equipment item may have five upgrades at a cost of 25600 Technology Points 4x Quality Improvement Opportunity. Hero grade items have lower costs per upgrade.

Premium items have different requirements for upgrading as compared to standard equipment, for instance, they might require fewer sowels but more minerals and erons. However, players must visit the NPC [Armorthe ] Boboko in Central Flarine with each piece of equipment they wish to upgrade. In addition to the upgrade cost mentioned above, each equipment upgrade will require a different amount of the ingredients for upgrading.
